Welcome back Reception Class
This week was a tiny bit shorter… but oh my goodness, we squished SO much learning into it!

First, we started a brand new story called Little Red. It’s like Little Red Riding Hood but a bit different and modern and exciting! We learned that traditional tales are very old stories that families told a long, long time ago. They’re often set in the countryside because people used to work on the land. We found shiny new words in our story and used our super listening ears to answer questions about what happened. Then we practiced our writing and worked really hard to make our sentences neat and correct. We are becoming amazing writers!

In maths, we remembered all the different ways to make the number 5. Did you know there are SIX ways? Six! That’s lots! We used our part-whole model, which is like a number puzzle, to put numbers together. Then we became number explorers and tried to find different ways to make 6, 7, 8 and even 9. Our brains were doing big stretches and feeling stronger!

In music, we listened to “Lovely Day” by Bill Withers and it made us smile straight away. It felt warm and happy, like sunshine on our faces. Some of us said it made us think about spending a lovely day with our families. We listened very carefully and heard guitars, drums with a shiny cymbal, singing voices, a violin and a piano. Then we sang “Old MacDonald” and “Wheels on the Bus” and did all the actions. There was lots of wiggling, singing and giggling!

This week was also Health & Safety Week, and we learned about first aid. That means helping someone if they get hurt. We practiced cleaning a pretend cut with a special wipe and putting a plaster on our class teddy. Teddy was very brave! We talked about what to do if someone gets hurt on the playground. We know we should go and get a grown-up and help comfort them so they feel better. We are such kind and caring friends.

For wellbeing, our big question was, “If I ruled the world, I would…” First we talked about who rules the world. We had some very interesting ideas like Mrs Chesters, mummies and daddies, God, the King and the President! We learned that there isn’t just one person who rules the whole world. Different countries have different leaders who help look after people and make rules. Then we shared what we would do if we were in charge. Some of us said we would make the world safe so nobody gets hurt. Some said we would make everyone happy. One of us said we would make sure nobody is poorly… and one person said they would stay in bed all day, which made us giggle!

It has been such a wonderful week full of learning, laughter and big thinking.
We can’t wait to see what adventures next week will bring.

Have the BEST weekend ever!
