Shining Our Lights in Reception!

What a wonderful week we’ve had in Reception! We’ve been busy shining our lights through our learning, our kindness and our teamwork. Every day we’ve been showing just how much we’ve grown and having lots of fun along the way!

Literacy Development: This week we have continued using describing words (adjectives) to talk about the characters from our story. We wrote simple sentences about them, using repetitive sentence openers to help us. We are so proud of what we can do — remembering our capital letters, finger spaces and full stops! We are really becoming confident writers.

Mathematical Development: In maths, we have been consolidating our knowledge of 2D shapes. We talked about their properties , sides and corners and had fun exploring how shapes can fit together to make bigger shapes. We are getting really good at spotting shapes all around our classroom and outdoor area!

Physical Development
With our coach, Mr J, we carried on developing our running, hopping, skipping and jumping skills. We worked hard on being aware of our space and others around us. Our PE fun continued with the story of Bertie Bunny and his friends as they helped Dexter the Dog return through the deep, dark wood to help plant carrots for the farmer, especially after we took them all last week! There was lots of laughter and great teamwork.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development: This week we had some brilliant discussions about what makes a good friend and what doesn’t. We thought carefully about how our words and actions make others feel. We used these ideas throughout our week to reflect on how we play and treat one another.
In wellbeing time, we talked about keeping ourselves safe at school and at home: listening to adults who give us good advice, following instructions and remembering our playground and classroom rules. We know these help to keep everyone happy and safe.

Understanding the World: We had such an exciting visit from PC Nick! He came to talk to us all about the role of the police in our local community. We learnt about different types of police transport and loved hearing about the police dogs and police horses. Then came the best bit: we saw PC Nick’s car, listened to the siren and saw the blue flashing lights! It was very noisy but so much fun! In RE, we completed our Questful Journey to find out why some people like to say thank you to God at Harvest time. We finished our Harvest maps and helped sort all our foodbank donations into different groups, ready for collection. We felt really proud to be helping others.

Expressive Arts and Design: In music, we listened to Happy Birthday by Stevie Wonder, which was perfect, as we celebrated a birthday in class this week! We loved finding the pulse in different ways to some of our favourite nursery rhymes, playing copycat rhythm games and exploring high and low pitch. Our classroom was full of music, movement and smiles!

Communication and Language Development: Across all our learning this week, we’ve been discovering and using lots of new vocabulary. We’ve loved exploring what new words mean and using them in our play and conversations. Every new word helps our light shine a little brighter!

It really has been another fantastic week in Reception, full of laughter, learning and friendship.
We are so proud of how we keep shining our lights in everything we do.
Have a great weekend
