What a fantastic two weeks of learning, Reception Class!
You have been curious, creative, and full of sparkle as you explored new ideas and continued your learning journey.
Literacy Development: Last week, we continued our adventure with Star in the Jar and discovered that stories have four important parts: an opening, a build-up, a problem, and an ending. We also explored rhyming words, practiced using different sentence openers, and learned how connective words help ideas flow. We did some brilliant independent writing by describing the character Yan using adjectives and careful sentence work to show just how much our writing skills are growing!
This week, we worked hard on planning and writing the opening and build-up of our story. We focused on becoming increasingly independent by: Rehearsing our sentences aloud ,counting our words, using Fred Fingers to help us spell, re-reading our work to check it makes sense. You should all feel incredibly proud, your writing confidence is growing every single day!
Physical Development: In PE these past two weeks, we have continued to build our strength, balance, and coordination through fun games and movement challenges. We used the space safely, followed instructions carefully, and moved with confidence.
Mathematical Development: Last week, we focused on early reasoning skills, comparing groups, counting accurately, and talking about the numbers we use in our everyday activities. We are becoming confident little mathematicians! This week we have been subitising numbers to five in random arrangements of objects.
Understanding the World: In RE last week, Clever Cub introduced our new concept of Incarnation. Through special objects such as a birthday card, candles, and a nativity set, we learned how Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus.
We listened to Clever Cub Welcomes Baby Jesus and explored different nativity scenes, enjoying acting out and retelling the story as we prepare for our own Nativity storytelling. This week, we continued exploring our big question: How do Christians celebrate Jesus’s birthday? We compared modern baby items with swaddling clothes and a manger, helping us understand what the stable might have been like. We also discussed how we celebrate our own birthdays and how Christmas is celebrated as Jesus’s special day. To help us retell the story independently, we created a Nativity story basket filled with props and costumes.
Expressive Arts and Design: We used a range of materials to create artwork inspired by our Christmas learning. We enjoyed painting, building, singing, and exploring musical sounds that filled our classroom with creativity and joy.
Personal, Social, and Emotional Development: Last week, it was Anti-Bullying Week, and we learned that bullying is something that happens repeatedly and on purpose. We talked about who we can talk to if we feel worried and how important it is to look after each other. On World Kindness Day, we focused on spreading smiles through random acts of kindness , and you made our classroom a very happy place to be! During well-being time this week, we thought about what makes us feel proud. We shared things like: working hard at school, trying our best in swimming, getting better at writing. We celebrated these achievements with big smiles, feeling proud is such a wonderful feeling!
