What a busy week it has been in Reception!
We've had a great time learning together and enjoying all the festive activities as we get closer to Christmas. We especially loved watching the students from South Cheshire College perform a Christmas version of room on the broom for us. It was a fabulous story of friendship, kindness and love with a good sprinkle of laughter. Thank you Miss Willis for organising this treat for the whole school.
Physical Development: With Mr J, we continued to develop our ball skills. We practiced passing, rolling, and dribbling the ball, while focusing on the most important skill of all: keeping control of the ball. We even managed a quick game of football at the end of the session.
Mathematical Development: Our mathematical focus this week was to compare numbers to see if a number was more or less than another given number. We began by recognising numerals to 10 in a random order before ordering them from the smallest to the largest number. Building on from this we could say which numeral was more or less by making sets and comparing.
Literacy Development: As we have now completed all of our Ready Steady Write-up tasks, we turned our attention to some wider writing provocations inspired by our story in provision time. It was a joy to see such lovely, independent writing!
Language and Communication: We have continued to enjoy sharing stories from our Twelve Books of Christmas book advent calendar. Each day brings a new magical Christmas tale, which we have loved exploring together as a class.
Understanding the World: In RE, we explored how Christmas is celebrated in different churches and reflected on our own experiences of the Christingle service that some of us attended on Sunday. We reflected on all we have learned so far and how this special celebration brings joy and meaning to people's lives.
DC Andrew Kevan joined this week to share how to keep safe online on our tablets or parents phones. He brought along his friend Cyber Sid, sharing how we should only use our tablets when our parents are there in the room with us, only click on games or videos we are allowed and most importantly, tell an adult if we see something that is not good, upsets us or makes us feel sad.
Wellbeing: This week, we had some very important discussions about safety. We talked about times when we might feel unsafe and what strategies we can use to help ourselves in those situations. We also identified trusted people who can support us when we feel worried or unsure. To finish, we enjoyed a wellbeing activity where we watched a funny video clip together--it brought lots of laughter and joy to our day!
What a wonderful week, Reception!
You are truly shining your lights brightly in all areas of your learning, and we are so proud of you.
