Super Stories, Super Skills, Super Us!

Our adventures with Juniper Jupiter continued, and we dived even deeper into the world of superheroes. We explored different styles of writing, created a brilliant list of sidekick qualities, and designed our very own superhero posters. We even wrote sentences about our superpowers and let’s just say, Reception Class is bursting with talent, courage and creativity.

In maths, we became “one less” experts. Using ten frames, we counted a given number, took one away, and explained our thinking like true mathematicians. We loved saying sentences such as “one less than 7 is 6,” and our confidence grew with every example.

Wellbeing time took us on a magical journey. If we could snap our fingers and travel anywhere in the world, where would we go? Our imaginations soared as we shared our dream destinations with our friends.

Forest School was full of superhero magic too. We built cosy homes for our tiny superhero figures, complete with four walls, a bedroom, a bathroom and a kitchen. We collected acorns for their meals, built them a fire to keep warm, and finished our session with a delicious toasted marshmallow, the perfect ending to our woodland adventure.

In Understanding the World, we continued exploring “people who help us” by looking at photographs from the past and present. We noticed how uniforms and equipment have changed over time, and we also spotted something important: many of these roles used to be male�€'dominated, but today we see lots of amazing women helping our communities too.

PE saw us back on the mats for more gymnastics. We added new tucks to our repertoire :pike and straddle and used the benches to create a short routine, combining last week’s rolls with our brand�€'new shapes. Strong bodies and big smiles all round.

In RE, we continued thinking about the question “What is prayer?” We created our own picture prayers to show the things we are thankful for, and we learned that the Bible has a special book called Psalms, filled with prayers in song form that thank God.
