Pumpkin Pals and Autumn Adventures!

This week in preschool has been filled with autumn magic and pumpkin fun as we explored the changing season, learned about kindness, and got creative with all things orange and leafy!

We met Patch the Pumpkin and learned about his Peace Club. Inspired by Patch, we created our very own preschool rules together:

  • We will be kind.
  • We will share.
  • We will help others.
  • We will include everybody.

The children have really taken these to heart, and we’ve been so proud to see them practicing kindness and care for one another throughout the week

Our story of the week was a selection of pumpkin-themed tales, with a clear favourite being Delicious by Helen Cooper. The children loved joining the three animal friends as they made all sorts of soups together — a perfect cosy story for autumn days!

For our rhyme of the week, we sang Five Little Pumpkins, which followed on beautifully from last week’s rhyme. The children enjoyed talking about the pumpkins’ different emotions and acting them out with big expressive faces.

On Wednesday, we wrapped up warm and set off on an Autumn Walk. The children were brilliant nature detectives, spotting so many signs of the new season — colourful leaves scattered on the ground, apples still hanging in the orchard, and that crisp, cool breeze in the air that told us autumn had truly arrived.

Back in preschool, the creativity continued with lots of pumpkin-themed crafts and activities. The children painted pumpkins, used shapes and pins to tap out designs, and even explored what was inside the pumpkins! They washed them, painted apples to make pumpkin pictures, and discovered so many different textures, colours, and smells along the way. Their curiosity and imagination shone through in every activity.

Our maths focus this week was on 1:1 correspondence and counting accurately to three, with the children practising careful counting during play and activities — from pumpkins and leaves to spoons and scoops of sand!

As we wrap up this wonderful week, we’d like to wish all our families a happy half-term break. We hope you enjoy some autumn adventures of your own and take time to relax and recharge.

This week has been packed with creativity, exploration, and kindness. Be sure to ask your child what they enjoyed most — perhaps it was a favourite pumpkin activity or something special they spotted on our autumn walk.

We can’t wait to see everyone after the break for more learning and laughter together!
