This week in preschool we have been busy learning, creating, and playing together.
In Maths, we explored 2D shapes by making patterns and pictures. The children enjoyed fitting different shapes together to make new pictures and designs. We made Numicon houses for the Three Little Pigs, created shape pictures, and even challenged ourselves to build houses using only triangles. We also recapped numbers 1, 2, and 3, practising counting and recognising them in different ways.
In Literacy, we introduced our new traditional tale, The Three Little Pigs, and enjoyed sharing The Way Back Home by Oliver Jeffers. Our rhyme of the week was “Three Little Men in a Flying Saucer.” The children helped create a brand-new oral story, which we then acted out together during our very first Helicopter Story Time—the children were amazing storytellers and actors!
For Physical Development, we focused on fine motor skills through peg puzzles, using pipettes with water, turning space dust into gloop, and exploring cosmic playdough. These activities really helped to strengthen little hands and fingers.
Despite the grey and damp weather, we still had lots of fun outdoors. The children enjoyed playing football, painting our new fence and active area floor, cooking up muddy treats in the mud kitchen with jungle animals, and chasing windy-day bubbles and streamers.
Indoors, our space station has been very busy! The children have loved junk modelling, building tracks, and playing with cars, using their imagination and working together with friends.
Next week, we will be focusing on number 4 and continuing our exciting learning with The Three Little Pigs and our space theme. We’re really looking forward to another fun-filled week!
