Tasty Treats, Tall Towers, and a Visit from PC Nick!
This week in preschool has been bursting with flavour, feelings, and fantastic fun! We’ve been exploring our sense of taste, and Wednesday’s fruit kebab activity was a real hit. The children loved choosing colourful fruits to thread onto their sticks, and we had lots of giggles as we dipped breadsticks into cheesy, savoury spreads during snack time.
There were some brave tasters and some very expressive faces!
Our story of the week was The Family Book, which helped us celebrate how every family is different and special. The children shared lovely things about their own families, linking beautifully into our “All About Me” theme. It was heartwarming to hear them talk about who lives in their house and what makes their family unique.
In our Heartsmart PSED session, we sang If You’re Happy and You Know It and talked about different feelings. The children came up with their own actions to show emotions—stomping for frustration, jumping for joy, and cuddling for love. It was a lovely way to build emotional awareness.
We also went on a hedgehog hunt in the preschool garden! Hidden hedgehogs gave us the perfect chance to recap positional language. The children searched high and low, calling out where they found them—in, on, under, and behind all sorts of places. It was a brilliant blend of language, movement, and excitement.
Our maths focus was all about height. The children built towers using blocks and other materials, comparing which were tall and which were short. We even measured ourselves to see how tall we are—linking back to our “All About Me” theme and sparking lots of smiles.
Thursday brought a very special visitor—PC Nick! We joined the reception class to learn all about being a police officer. The children were fascinated by his uniform and equipment, and the highlight was definitely seeing his police car. We listened to the siren and saw the flashing lights, it was a truly exciting experience!
Next week is Pumpkin Week! We’ll be diving into all things autumn—exploring pumpkins inside and out, getting creative with pumpkin-themed activities, and learning about our very own pumpkin heroes. We can’t wait!
