We’ve had a wonderfully busy and joy filled final week of the half term in Preschool. The children have thrown themselves into every activity with curiosity, creativity and plenty of giggles. In maths, we explored sorting in lots of hands on ways. The children sorted objects by shape, size and colour, and enjoyed investigating a range of 2D shapes. They noticed similarities, differences and patterns — brilliant early mathematical thinking.
Our storytelling took an exciting twist as we explored different versions of The Three Little Pigs. The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig quickly became a favourite, sparking lots of laughter and imaginative retelling. The children loved comparing the stories and talking about the characters.
We also enjoyed another lively Helicopter Story session. The children created their own stories and then joined their friends to act them out — a wonderful boost for confidence, communication and imagination.
Our Heartsmart focus this week was all about kindness and friendship. We played the Boris game We Are All Friends Together, sharing what we enjoy playing with our friends and thinking about how we can show kindness every day.
Fine motor fun was woven throughout the week. The children practised writing their names, explored playdough, and squiggled and shook pompoms to Hey Senora — lots of energetic movement to strengthen those important muscles.
Our rhyme of the week, The Wheels on the Bus, took us on quite the adventure. The children added everything from crying babies to dinosaurs and dogs, creating their own playful versions of the song.
It’s been a very creative week in the art area too. The children printed with cars to make tracks and marks, used our new glue pots to create colourful collages, and printed with 2D shapes.
On Friday, we finished the week with heart cutters and heart collages — a lovely way to end the half term.
Outdoors, the builder’s resources were as popular as ever. The children worked together brilliantly, showing fantastic teamwork as they built all sorts of structures, including a maze.
Next half term, we’ll be travelling back in time to explore dinosaurs, and our traditional tale will be Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Lots of exciting learning ahead.
As we wrap up this half term, we wish all our families a restful, cosy break. We hope you enjoy some slow moments together, and we look forward to welcoming the children back for more adventures soon.
