This Week in Preschool
We’ve had a wonderfully festive week in preschool, full of Christmas excitement and lots of learning through play.

We are thrilled to share that our Nativity filming is now complete and we will be sharing this with you via Seesaw next week. The children have shown such confidence and enthusiasm as they performed, developing their communication and language skills as well as their confidence and sense of belonging.

Our story of the week was Stick Man, which the children loved—especially the moment Santa comes to the rescue. Sharing stories like this helps the children build their listening, understanding, and early reading skills as they join in with repeated phrases and talk about the characters .

We also learned the rhyme Five Mince Pies in the Baker’s Shop, which supported the children’s mathematical development as they practised counting, used number language, and explored the concept of “five”. Our Advent calendar has added even more excitement as we count down to Christmas together, strengthening number recognition and sequencing.

Outdoors, the children have been developing their physical skills by making large sweeping marks with brooms and bubbles, transporting bricks in wheelbarrows, and rolling large tyres around the garden. These activities help build strength, coordination, and control, while also encouraging teamwork and problem solving as they worked together to build a wall of logs and bricks.

Indoors, the children have enjoyed festive role 'play, which supports imagination, language, and social skills. They explored glitter in our sensory tray, developing curiosity and early scientific thinking, and played Christmas bingo, which encouraged turn taking, listening, and attention.

Our independent builders have continued to impress us, creating beds, bridges, and more walls for Humpty Dumpty, strengthening their understanding of shape, space, and construction.
The children have also been working on their special Christmas creations, using tools, materials, and early writing skills to make something unique to bring home next week.

Next week, we’ll continue our Christmas fun with more festive makes, mini disco dances, and plenty of joyful games as we head towards the end of term.
