A very busy week in preschool finished on Friday with an amazing sports day! Well done preschool we are so proud of you. The children took part with great energy and enthusiasm, doing their best and cheering on their friends.
On Monday we were pleased to find 4 fluttering butterflies had made their way out of their cocoons. We observed them for a couple of days and then on Wednesday we released them into the preschool garden. The children waved them off as they flew into the garden and over the school.
When we were looking at the butterflies we spotted the beautiful symmetrical patterns on their wings, so the children used splotches of paint and folded butterfly templates to make their own symmetrical butterfly pictures. We also used different pasta shapes to make a representation of the butterflies life cycle. The children worked very carefully to choose the appropriate shape and to stick it in the correct place on their lifecycle picture.
In our HeartSmart session this week we had great fun building towers with paper cups. First we worked together to build a tower with all of the cups and then the children tried building towers in different ways. Boris says "keep trying!"
Our maths focus this week has been 3 dimensional shapes, we have looked at some of the different shapes such as spheres, cones and cylinders. We have tried to find shapes in our environment and tried matching pictures of shapes together.
The children have also enjoyed some time in the preschool garden, climbing, exploring the windy weather with windmills, practicing our tennis skills for Wimbledon, and playing pirates on the good ship preschool!
Next week we will be singing all of the rhymes we have learned this year (we have counted 40!) and talking about how we have grown and changed over the preschool year.
