This week in preschool, we have been busy focusing on transition times for everyone.
Our older children have been into the reception class for some very exciting visits, and they had such a lovely time with Mrs Ward exploring their new classroom and trying out some fun activities. It was wonderful to see so many confident, smiling faces ready for their next adventure! Meanwhile, our younger children have been busy welcoming our new September starters who came in for their stay and play visits. Everyone has been making new friends and helping each other feel settled and happy.

In Literacy, we have been looking back through all the wonderful stories we have read over the year and carefully choosing our favourites to read together again. We did the same with our rhymes, picking from our special collection of 35 rhyme spoons. There were lots of giggles and happy memories as we remembered all the songs we've sung and the tales we've shared.

For Maths, we harvested our potatoes that we planted earlier in the year and counted how many we found in each bag. The children were very excited to see how much they had grown and to compare the amounts. It was such a fantastic way to see real-life maths in action and celebrate our hard work caring for our plants.

In PSED, we re-enacted another of our favourite stories, We're Going on a Bear Hunt, around our outdoor area. We went over, under and through lots of obstacles, and we thought about what might have happened if we had given up at the first hurdle. We agreed we would never have found the bear or had so much fun together. Boris says, "There's always a way--keep going!"

In Physical Development, we really enjoyed a big obstacle course on Friday. We practised balancing on the beam, jumping off the step, weaving in and out of the cones, and doing big frog jumps over the spots. Everyone tried again and again with brilliant perseverance--well done, everybody! We also moved our bodies in different ways to act out the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, which was another of our old favourite stories.

In Understanding the World, we made cress heads, sowing the cress on to cotton wool to make hair! We added fresh herbs to our playdough, which made a beautiful minty smell and was lovely to explore with our senses.

At home, why not have a lovely chat with your grown-ups about your favourite stories, rhymes, or all the special times you have enjoyed in preschool this year? It's such a nice way to remember and celebrate all the brilliant things we have shared and learned together as a team.

Next week, we'll be carrying on looking back over our past year in preschool and talking about all the wonderful things we have enjoyed the very most. We can't wait to hear about your favourite memories, the things that made you feel proud, and all the fun times you had with your friends!
