This week in preschool, we have turned our attention to the creatures of the sea, with a special focus on mermaids.

Our books of the week included The Singing Mermaid, The Undersea Cleaning Spree, and Somebody Swallowed Stanley, all of which helped us learn more about ocean life and the importance of caring for our environment.
Our rhyme of the week was A Sailor Went to Sea, Sea, Sea, which the children enjoyed singing along with actions.

We began exploring ways to protect our environment by discussing recycling, picking up rubbish, reusing materials, and composting food waste. This led to lots of hands-on learning and the children were particularly excited to plant their own potatoes.By Friday, we could already see some roots beginning to appear on our potato in a bottle!
Meanwhile, our tadpoles continue to grow, and we have started noticing changes in their shape.

For literacy, we had fun with our Silly Soup alliteration game, focusing on words that start with the 't' sound. We also played Cross the River, an oral blending game that encourages early phonics skills.

In our Heartsmart session, we explored emoji emotions, identifying different feelings from pictures and talking about when we might experience those emotions. We also read Sharing a Shell, a lovely story about friendship, teamwork, and learning to share.

Outdoor play has been full of excitement this week! The children enjoyed using water sprayers, which helped strengthen their fingers, playing in the mud kitchen, and practicing their football skills with our new goalpost. They also had fun gardening with their wheelbarrows, helping to transport soil and bark.

As always, we have continued to strengthen our fine motor skills with Squiggle and Dough Gym, helping to develop our hand muscles for writing.

We exercised our whole bodies on Friday with a session of 'Sticky kids' the children had great fun moving in different ways and joining in with the 'stir the porridge ring game. We followed this with a drink and a snack, talking about how important it is to stay hydrated.

We hope you liked the 'magic' mother's day cards the children brought home, they worked really hard to scrape patterns onto their magic wands!

Next week, we will be celebrating Easter and learning about new life, exploring baby animals, and reading Peely Wally. We will also be singing Sleeping Bunnies and having lots of spring-themed fun!
