This week in Preschool, we were delighted to welcome our final group of new starters for the school year. We hope they have enjoyed their first few days with us and are beginning to settle into our preschool family.
We have also launched our new termly theme, My Planet and Me.
To begin, we started to explore garden creatures we might find in our environment, with a particular focus on frogs.
The children enjoyed listening to The Wide-Mouthed Frog story and singing Five Little Speckled Frogs throughout the week.
On Tuesday, we celebrated Earth Day by discussing ways we can help look after our world and local environment. The children created beautiful Earth paintings using cotton buds, developing both their fine motor skills and control.
On Wednesday, we marked St George's Day by sharing the story of St George and the Dragon, followed by creating our own St George's flags.
Thursday saw our first Sports Day practice. The children were amazing, demonstrating fantastic sportsmanship as they cheered for their friends and had lots of fun racing on our track.
On Friday, we continued to build our knowledge of the number five through our rhyme of the week, Five Little Speckled Frogs. We combined counting skills with physical activity by bouncing space hopper frogs into a pond target, helping to embed mathematical concepts through play.
During our Heartsmart session, we read The Boy Who Cried Wolf and discussed the importance of being honest and using our 'true words' when speaking to others.
Outdoors, the children were thrilled to discover our new sandpit. There has been lots of enthusiastic digging, sandcastle building, and imaginative play. They also practised their ball skills at the basketball hoop, alongside enjoying our mud kitchen, ride-on cars, and other outdoor activities.
Next week, we are looking forward to sowing and growing our own beans, peas, and cress as we continue to explore the theme of growth and our natural world
