This Week in Preschool!

This week, we dove into more festivals, enjoyed a beloved traditional tale, and had lots of snowy fun outdoors. Here's a recap of our busy week:

Wednesday: World Children's Day
On Wednesday, we celebrated World Children's Day, discussing how fortunate we are to have Children's Rights. The children learned about some of the key rights they have:

  • The right to go to school.
  • The right to food, clothing, and a safe place to live.
  • The right to play and rest.

The children were enthusiastic about sharing their thoughts on what they enjoy most and what makes them feel happy and safe.

Monday: Traditional Tale--The Gingerbread Man

We kicked off our traditional tale for this term, "The Gingerbread Man," noticing that it started with our favorite phrase, "Once upon a time."
We've enjoyed lots of gingerbread-themed activities, from gingerbread playdough to spiced gloop. The children loved retelling the story using the characters in our small world area.

We also had a gingerbread-themed math activity on our interactive board, focusing on counting and recognizing the numerals 1-5.

Number of the Week: 3

Our number of the week was 3, and the children practiced:

  • Collecting three objects.
  • Spotting the number three around preschool.
  • Showing three fingers during circle time.

This exploration of the number 3 helps solidify counting skills and early number recognition.

Nativity Preparations

Christmas is on the horizon, and we've started learning our Christmas songs for our Nativity performance! The children are already working hard to remember the words and melodies, and we're so proud of their efforts.

Awe and Wonder: Wintery Explorations

The outdoor space has been full of excitement this week with snow and ice! The children explored the textures and patterns of ice, feeling the chill and watching how it melts in the sun.

They were also captivated by the work happening outside, watching a mini digger and mini dumper truck remove the old path surface. There were lots of excited gasps and observations as the vehicles moved through the garden!

Coming Up Next Week

Next week, we'll focus on the importance of giving thanks and will celebrate St. Andrew's Day with some fun Scottish-themed activities. We can't wait to explore new traditions together!

This week has been full of learning, storytelling, and exploring the wintery world around us. Ask your child about their favorite gingerbread activity or what they saw the mini digger do!
