What a busy and exciting week we’ve had in preschool! We’ve been tasting new flavors, building creative projects, and learning about our families. Here’s what we’ve been up to:
Sense of the Week: Taste
This week, we explored our sense of taste! The children tried a variety of flavors:
Sweet, sour, salty, and savoury treats were sampled, and more children than expected were adventurous enough to try a small taste of marmite—some even loved it!
This activity was a great way to expand the children’s understanding of flavors and encourage them to be curious and open to new tastes.
HeartSmart Session: Boris the Robot
In our HeartSmart session, we created Boris the Robot using recycled boxes. The children learned that just like Boris, we are all special and unique in our own ways.
This creative project sparked inspiration, and throughout the week, the children continued to make robots, dinosaurs, and rockets using all sorts of boxes, tape, glue, and other bits and bobs. It was wonderful to see their imaginations come alive!
Story of the Week: Our Jungle by Rod Campbell
Our story this week was "Our Jungle" by Rod Campbell. The children had fun creating their own jungle environment in our tough spot using small world toys, and they acted out scenes from the story, letting their imaginations run wild.
Rhyme of the Week: 3 Little Ducks
We sang the rhyme "3 Little Ducks" and practiced showing our finger numbers up to three. It’s a fun way for the children to connect movement with counting as they get comfortable with numbers.
Family Sharing
A big thank you to all the parents who shared family pictures with us! The children have loved talking about who is in their family and showing their pictures to friends. It was so heartwarming to see the joy on their faces as they shared stories about their loved ones.
Positional Language Focus: "Under"
This week, we focused on the positional word "under." The children practiced hiding objects under different things and used the word in their play, reinforcing their understanding of spatial language.
Looking Ahead
Next week, we are excited to dive into autumn! We’ll be learning all about the season and meeting Patch the Pumpkin in our Pumpkin Heroes activities. Get ready for some autumn fun!
This week was full of exploration, creativity, and joy. Be sure to ask your child about their favorite flavor or what they made with boxes this week!
