Creepy Crawlies and Creative Learning!

Hello Families,

We've had a wonderfully busy and engaging week in preschool as we continued to explore the world of minibeasts, with a special focus on spiders!

In literacy, we read The Very Busy Spider by Eric Carle. The children enjoyed the repetitive language and learning about all the different animals in the story.
Our sound of the week was 'd', and our older children practiced identifying, saying, and beginning to write the sound during our Read Write Inc. phonics sessions.

In communication and language, we focused on the traditional rhyme Little Miss Muffet. The children loved learning some of the more old-fashioned words and acting out the rhyme -- especially when the spider sat down beside her!

Our maths focus this week was on size and comparison. We measured our growing plants to find out which was the tallest, and we also compared spiders of different sizes -- ordering them from biggest to smallest.

In Understanding the World, we continued caring for our plants and learning fascinating spider facts. We also spent time potting on our seedlings, observing how they are developing and what they need to keep growing strong.

For physical development, we kept up our sports day practice with lots of energetic outdoor fun.
Our fine motor activities included cutting the grass, building with mini bricks, threading and linking chains, and using tweezers to rescue spiders from webs -- all of which help build important hand and finger strength.

In PSED, we went on a thankful walk, noticing and appreciating the shining sun, the shade of the trees, and the cool breeze from the wind. We ended the activity by singing a thankful prayer together.

For Expressive Arts and Design, the children painted bug stones to decorate our preschool garden and created their own craft spiders. These colourful and imaginative creations are now brightening up our learning spaces!

It's been another fun-filled week of learning through play. Thank you for all your continued support -- we can't wait to share more with you next week!
