This week has been filled with excitement as we continued our exploration of mini beasts.
From observing our growing caterpillars to welcoming new creatures into our preschool, our little learners have been thoroughly engaged. Here's a look at our week:
Alongside our growing caterpillars, we have been joined by two Giant African land snails.
The children have learned fascinating facts about these snails and had the opportunity to watch and touch them.
This hands-on experience was complemented by making our own snail pictures, painting spiral patterns which we practiced during our gross and fine motor music session. We have also enjoyed playing mini beast bingo, which has helped develop our listening skills
Our rhyme of the week was "5 Little Speckled Frogs." We used this song not only for singing but also as a fun maths activity, counting how many frogs are in the pool, how many are still on the log, and how many there are altogether.
Our story of the week was "The Snail and the Whale." The children enjoyed learning how the tiny snail managed to help the great big whale and how everyone worked together to return the whale to the sea.
We also went on a summer walk to spot signs of the season and kept an eye out for more mini beasts. We were thrilled to spot a butterfly in the preschool garden!
Another story we enjoyed was "Sharing a Shell" by Julia Donaldson, which led to a discussion about how the creatures were lonely by themselves but happier when they were kind to each other.
Outdoor play continued to be a highlight, with the children collecting tiny apples that are dropping off the tree.
On Friday, we were very lucky to watch the Reception class's worship. The children loved hearing about the things that help them to shine!
The children have also been very busy making the 'coolest' Father's day cards.
Next week, we will continue to observe our caterpillars as they grow and welcome more mini beasts into our classroom.
We are looking forward to welcoming our new starters for their stay and play sessions and we will be supporting our N2 children in their transition visits to reception.
