Listen Up! Sounds, Shapes and Soapy Bubbles
This week in preschool has been full of fun, movement, and lots of listening! We've been tuning into the world around us as we explored our sense of hearing. The children made their very own 'listening ears' and wore them proudly on our walk around the school grounds. We heard birds chirping, leaves rustling--and the highlight of the walk was spotting a big tractor ploughing the field! The children were fascinated by the rumbling engine and loved chatting about what the tractor was doing.
Back in class, we played all sorts of listening games, trying to guess different sounds and enjoying music together--clapping, tapping, and dancing along. Our story of the week was Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Can You Hear? which tied in perfectly with all our sound adventures. And our rhyme, Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes, got everyone moving and giggling as we sang and pointed to each part.
In maths, we've been busy exploring shapes. The children had a great time with shape puzzles, sorting activities, and using different shaped blocks to match silhouettes. There was lots of problem-solving and teamwork as they figured out which shapes fit where.
For our Heartsmart PSED session, we looked closely at Boris the robot and talked about the shapes that make him up. Then we made our own Boris pictures using 2D shapes--each one different, each one special, just like us!
Indoors, we got messy with shaving foam, enjoyed stories in our cosy reading area, and built all sorts of creations with blocks and toys.
Outdoors, we zoomed around on scooters, splashed in water play, and worked together to build a giant drainpipe ball run. There was plenty of laughter and teamwork as we watched the balls whizz through the pipes.
It's been a brilliant week of exploring, creating, and listening closely to the world around us. We can't wait to see what next week brings!
