This Week in Preschool!
It's been a week full of celebration, learning, and excitement as we explored special days, welcomed a new feathered friend, and had a visit from a real police officer! Here's what we've been up to:

Monday: Remembrance Day
We started the week by making poppies and joining the rest of the school for a two-minute silence at 11 am, marking Remembrance Day. The children showed great respect during this thoughtful moment, learning about the importance of remembering and honoring others.

Wednesday: World Kindness Day
We talked about World Kindness Day and explored different ways to show kindness. In preschool, we are always practicing how to use kind hands with our friends, and this week, we renewed our kind hand pledge.
The children enjoyed printing their handprints around our pledge as a colorful and creative way to commit to kindness in our preschool.

Friday: Children in Need
We had so much fun celebrating Children in Need! The children arrived in a bright array of colorful, spotty, and Pudsey-themed clothes.
We also had an energetic time traveling around the daily mile track in various ways--walking forwards and backwards, jumping, skipping, and even walking sideways. It was a great way to support this special cause while getting some exercise!

Exploring the Concept of "Same"
This week, we focused on understanding the concept of "same." The children practiced matching two things that were the same, getting very good at spotting similarities and creating pairs.

Number of the Week: 2
Our number of the week was 2, and the children practiced:

  • Showing two fingers.
  • Collecting two objects.
  • Recognising different ways to represent the number 2--such as matching pairs or looking at dots on dice.
  • Spotting the numeral 2 around the environment.

This focus helps build their foundational counting and number skills!

Story of the Week: Mr. Wiggle and Mr. Waggle
We had a fantastic time learning the oral story of Mr. Wiggle and Mr. Waggle. The children loved joining in with both the words and the actions, making storytelling a lively and interactive experience.

Awe and Wonder: A New Friend!
A very special visitor has been joining us in preschool--a friendly and tame robin! The children have been fascinated, watching him hop and fly around the preschool garden. This has brought a sense of awe and wonder to our outdoor playtime, sparking curiosity and a love of nature.

Special Visitor: PC Nick
A big thank you to PC Nick for visiting us on Thursday! He talked to the children about the role of the police and how they help keep us safe.

The highlight was sitting in his police car, seeing the flashing lights, and hearing the siren. The children were thrilled and learned so much about safety and the work of our local police.

This week has been full of celebration, exploration, and joy. Be sure to ask your child about their favorite activity--whether it was meeting the robin, learning how to spot things that are the same or retelling the story of Mr Wiggle and Mr Waggle!
