Another week has flown by and it has been a jam-packed one. We have worked our socks off and I am so proud of you all.

We have continued to work with fractions in maths and we have now completed our unit. We will continue to recap our learning in our early morning starters. I am so proud of you all as working with fractions takes determination and resilience. We will now complete our end of unit checks. Well done. Super work Year 6.

We have worked hard in English to word bank and place ourselves in the shoes of people in our story. We have used transitional phrases to write flashbacks and we have used all our hard work to finish our writing and edit fully. We will now publish these pieces in our posh writing books.

In book club this week we have enjoyed opening our reading advent calendar windows. We have been introduced to a new author and story each day and we have even made snowflakes. We have also continued to enjoy our class story.

We have nearly completed our science unit on light this week. We have one final experiment – making periscopes – which will use to become school spies. Please can you ask your child to bring in a cereal box in preparation. We now know about angles and what degree they need to be reflected at to make a periscope work. We have also investigated shadows and how these change depending on the distance from a light source.

We are well on our way with our playground sculptures in DT. They are taking shape and some are ready to be placed onto a landscaped park area. We will aim to complete these before Christmas and then create a gallery for you to enjoy shortly after.

In RE this week, we found out all about the prophets related to candle one of the advent wreath and John the Baptist related to candle two. We thought about the messages behind the prophets Isaiah and Micah. We used comic drawings to think about our learning.

In Geography this week we have thought about minerals and asked ourselves if we have an endless supply. We played a sorting game to understand what a mineral is and where it comes from. We then looked at a world map and where most minerals are mined, and we discussed what surprised us most.

We have enjoyed lessons in Wellbeing, PSHE and Courageous Advocacy this week. We have also taken part in two PE lessons.

In Music this week we looked at the lyrics of three more wartime songs. We highlighted words and phrases we felt were about: going to war, missing loved ones, memories and the importance of offering support. You are my sunshine is a song many of us were familiar with.

We finished our week off watching our KS1 Nativity which was lovely and then spent time with our buddies which is always a joy.

We pass on our Year 6 congratulations to Harry in Year 5 who won the MP Christmas card competition. We loved your drawing of a partridge in a pear tree.

Have a wonderful weekend.
Your teacher,
Mrs B.
