We have covered so many areas in our learning this week and I am proud of each and every one of you. Year 6 you are flying. Each day you work your way through our morning maths starters and mark them all before 9am, truly amazing!
This week in Maths we have continued to master the four operations. We have used squared and cubed numbers and then moved on to short and long multiplication. We have decided to spend next week during our starter time completing long multiplication calculations to consolidate our learning.
Our English focus this week has been on our Big Writing. We have completed our pieces and edited with success. We have even begun to publish our pieces in our posh books. We have also used some of our English timings to run through our Harvest Celebration Service. Well done Year 6.
During Book Club this week we have continued to read with an adult. I am receiving lots of book reviews into my inbox which is brilliant. We are logging the points towards first reading badges and I'm sure we will be presenting our first ones soon.
Our Spelling focus is still on suffixes that begin with a vowel. We have used words ending in e to understand how this letter is dropped before adding a vowel suffix. We will continue with our learning next week.
In Science this week, we used pictures, definitions and diagrams to match the correct symbols before drawing our own circuits.
We chose different cities of interest to investigate the Blitz around the country in our history lesson this week. We thought about different enquiry questions: Why were your chosen cities targeted? What do you think Hitler was trying to do? What impact did this have on the people of the city? What a fab job you did Year 6. I have loved reading your responses.
In RE this week, we collected different Bible stories and thought about the teachings they had. What do these stories tell a Christian? We used different questions to help generate our answers.
We logged on to Interland this week in Computing to work through a set of e-safety challenges. We also played a game of Blooket. Year 6 are so keen to play this game and it is a great way to learn new facts.
We continued to develop our animal sculptures this week in art. We used our sculptures to add light and dark and to develop features. We used mark making illustrations from Oliver Twist to think about our animals and to add collage. We are loving this unit and we will continue with this next week.
In music this week, we continued building our confidence playing our recorders. We reflected back on last week's learning and discussed how the last two lines of the sheet music were tripping us up. We spent time breaking up each line and looking at the difference in the quaver notes and the semiquaver notes. After practising this section a few times, we could hear a marked difference in our playing. Great teamwork
We have taken part in PE this week with Mrs Whittingham and Kick.
New homework has been set. This includes: maths.co.uk, TT Rock Stars and regular reading aloud with an adult. Please could you encourage your child to play on TT Rock Stars as often as possible. Times table knowledge on the tip of their tongues is of great help as we move through the Year 6 maths curriculum. Much of my curriculum depends upon sharp knowledge of these facts and I can only timetable a practice once a week.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend. See you all on Monday.
Your teacher.
