What a week we have had in Year 6. We have missed so many of you and hope you are all feeling much better and can be back with us soon.

On Tuesday we spent the day at Tatton Park enjoying a WW2 Living History Day. We joined members from the Tatton Park Estate to bring this period of history alive as we took part in many different activities. The sun shone on us as we learnt how WW2 impacted Tatton Park and what rationing and digging for Britain meant to the community. We identified different war planes and even had a plane go over our heads to add in sound effects. We enjoyed many other activities including learning a wartime song. A great day.

At the end of the day, I received an email from Tatton Park expressing thanks to the children. It said: "a message has been passed onto me by the guides who delivered your WWII session today. They wish to express their appreciation towards your pupils how well mannered, engaged and an absolute delight they were during the session. You must be exceedingly proud to have these children in your class. Please pass on the guides' comments to your pupils; they are obviously a credit to the school. What can I say Year 6. I read this email out to my children. I am super proud.

In other learning this week, we continued with fractions in maths. We now know how to multiply fraction parts and how to divide a fraction by a whole number. We will complete our fraction unit next week as we take on finding fractions of amounts. I am so impressed with all your hard work Year 6.

In English this week we have planned and written the first two paragraphs of our big write. We have used the characters from our book to think about flashbacks and how to include them in our narratives. I have modelled my first two paragraphs to show the change in tense and how to use the first person accurately. I can't wait to read and mark them all. I am excited.

In Geography we have continued to think about our planet and how healthy it is. We used the WWF website to identify the threats, their causes, how this will affect us all and possible solutions. We used atlases to locate the countries and regions mentioned and recorded the key findings from the report in the form of a pictorial map, with short captions.

We have begun a new computing unit this week by thinking about the question – What makes a good website. We looked at the features of a website and navigated it by answering questions.

In RE this week, we added the finishing touches to our Advent wreaths as we created our candles. We also added messages to each candle. We chose 3 purple candles and one pink candle as next week we will consider the importance of each one. They are all now ready to display.

We have enjoyed a morning of DT this week as we began to make one of our playground structures. Making decisions, choices and putting them into action was great to see. You needed patience and resilience to work through the challenges your structures created, Miss Dunn and I watched with lots of interest to see how you would problem solve them. They are well under way. We will return to them next week. Well done team.

In Music this week we continued looking at wartime songs. We analysed the song Any Old Iron and then we listened to Run Rabbit Run which we learned whilst we were at Tatton Park. We also listened to Don't fence me in and Everything Stops for Tea which made us all smile. We know how important Dame Vera Lynn and her music was at this time and we thought the White Cliffs of Dover was very poignant.

We have taken part in two PE lessons. Thank you to Mrs Whittingham and Coach Gabriel from Kick.

We have also enjoyed a wellbeing lesson and a PSHE lesson on Letting Love In.

We finished our week off with some buddy time which we always enjoy. We split into house groups and spent time in different spaces around our field.

Most of us are up to date with all our homework. Please can you use ensure your child has no outstanding homework? I do keep the questions being asked to a small amount, so this doesn't become an onerous task. Maths has been set for this week.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
Your teacher.
Mrs B.
