Welcome back to you all and I hope you have had a fabulous half term. You have settled back into a busy week and you have all worked so hard. I am proud of you.

In Maths this week we have continued with our decimal unit. We have added and subtracted decimals, multiplied by 10, 100 and 1000 and finished our week with dividing by powers of 10. We have also completed our first full set of Maths SATs papers. Amazing Year 6. I have set homework to reflect our decimal learning.

In English this week we have planned all six paragraphs of our explanation text. We are now ready to begin our focused writing next week.

In Book Club this week we have read with an adult and changed our books if needed. We have also spent some time talking about regular reading at home and how this supports understanding of texts. We have checked our Big Cat logbooks to ensure we are booking our books out and reminding ourselves to keep up with our reading.

In spellings this week we began a new unit on silent letters.

In Music this week we learnt all about our next unit – Beatboxing. We will be learning how to beatbox and how to create the right sounds for our chosen parts. We watched the Beatbox Collective perform a short piece and were amazed by their skills.

We began a new netball PE unit this week. We worked on chest passes first and then went on to play a passing game where we had to focus on communicating when attacking and defending.

Our PSHE lesson this week was taught by Mrs Pointon as we all came together in the hall to talk about calling the emergency services.

We enjoyed our first French lesson of our spring term this week on all about time. We recapped numbers to 12 to help when asking "Quelle heure et-il?"

During our First Aid lesson this week we were introduced to the term choking. We learnt how to help a casualty with an airway blockage and if necessary, how to contact the emergency services.

We completed our Stone Age assessments this week to reflect on our learning in Forest schools.

In Science this week we investigated the term evolution. We used comic strips of horses and whales to understand the need to evolve to survive. We then compared a woolly mammoth to a modern-day elephant and recorded our thoughts.

We continued to think about inspirational people in our Courageous Advocacy lesson and from our chosen top trump cards, we researched to create our own posters.

We enjoyed spending time with our buddies in the sunshine and then went on to end our week with our Wellbeing lesson.

Year 6, what a super week you have all had. I am so proud of you. You have settled back into Year 6 quickly and you have worked extremely hard. I hope you have had a wonderful weekend.

Your teacher,
Mrs. B.
