We have tackled so many learning activities this week and worked so hard, even in the hot weather. Well done Year 6. You are all super stars.
We have revisited our Statistics unit in Maths to ensure we are all secure with line graphs, bar charts and pie charts. We have tackled problem solving questions and delved into different challenges. I am so impressed with your knowledge Year 6. You are applying your skills and sharing your strategies. We will continue with this unit next week.
In Book Club this week, we have begun to use the book The Great Sea Dragon to drive our learning. We have focused on setting description and character analysis to support our learning.
In English this week we were introduced to a new book. We used different items to explore and predict the story and then went on to discuss different images from the text. Our book – King Kong will drive our writing which began with a Simile Poem. We will continue with the story next week.
In History this week, we began with a discussion on monuments, and which were classed as world famous. We halted on a well-known Stone and Bronze Age monument called Stonehenge. Using The Heritage website we all worked on our own devices to explore a 360-degree site which unveiled many different and fascinating facts. We then went on to present our findings in our own chosen way.
During our new DT unit – Cooking and Nutrition, we were introduced to complimentary flavours. We used a flavour wheel to explore different flavours on their own and then we tasted them combined. This lesson was definitely a firm favourite. Everyone's facial expressions kept Miss Dunn and I highly entertained! We will continue with this unit next week.
In Computing this week, we began a new unit – 3d modelling using Tinkercad. We were introduced to new features and explored different functions of this new programme. We will continue with this unit next week.
In Art this week we have used our resilience and a set of criteria to make small sculptures. We now know that we are not finding it hard because we can't do it, it is because we are doing it. Great job Year 6. A great way to spend a Friday afternoon.
We have enjoyed our PE sessions this week and our Music lesson too. We have also begun a new Science unit on classification and a new French unit.
We went out and about around our village this week on our community walk. In our Young Leaders Award lessons, we are thinking about our local environment and what makes it so special. We are also trying to find areas which may need to be improved. We went to 6 different locations and worked as a team to spot any points which need to be discussed. We will now create a map of our findings and locate important areas of interest.
We ended our week spending time with our buddies on our Daily Mile track. Always a treat.
I cannot believe how much learning we squeeze into our week Year 6. We move from one lesson to another with such pace and this is definitely preparing you for high school life! I hope you have had a brilliant weekend and I look forward to our next week of learning.
Your teacher.
