We have had a busy week in Year 6 and worked so hard. I am impressed. Well done Year 6.

This week in Maths we have continued with our addition and subtraction unit. We have focused on decimals and learnt to use an adjustment strategy to subtract numbers that include a lot of exchanging. We ended our week completing an assessment. Homework has been set to consolidate our learning. Great work Year 6.

We have analysed our model text of a speech this week in english. We thought about its structure and the language features that are included and we have also decided on the quote we want to use in our own speech. We have used our Rose Blanche story which we now know very well to write emotive sentences. We will continue with this piece next week.

We have completed our WW2 DK information text in book club this week and we will now move on to learning all about Anne Frank using different diary entries. We are very interested in Year 6 to learn all about her story.

We have also enjoyed listening to our story this week. Goodnight Mr Tom is a firm favourite and generates lots of class discussion.

In RE this week, we thought about the term pilgrimage. We discussed what this may mean and then went on to learn about the pilgrimage of a Christian. We used our creative talents to present our new knowledge. Great job Year 6.

In History this week, we began by watching a short video sharing the memories of Betty a lady who was evacuated as a child from Cardiff to the countryside. We recalled her experience and then went on to send post cards home or to present our knowledge as posters. I know how much Betty's recount intrigued you all.

We continued to use Google Classroom this week in computing. We are now well underway with our projects and we are trying very hard to just use the chat operation when wanting to talk to each other.

This week in music, we continued to practice our Charleston steps and our wartime partner dance. We are becoming more coordinated even with plenty of giggles and of course lots of fun. We also focused on a song called Wish for Peace this week. We are trying to sing the echo to add depth to enhance the sound of our voices. Well done Year 6.

As Scientists, we took on the challenge to test a variety of circuit diagrams. We discovered that these circuits were actually from toys that had been returned due to faults. We were then asked to deduce which engineers' circuit diagrams needed improvement. We gave feedback and considered why some circuits were incomplete or didn't work as expected.

In Wellbeing this week, we thought about the things that bug us. We talked about the different things that can upset us and we chatted about ways we could settle our thoughts and minds.

This week we have enjoyed two PE lessons. One with Thrive and one with Coach Beth.

We returned to our cup challenge this week in our Archbishop Young Leaders lesson. After discussing the traits of a good leader, we used our elastic bands to stack our cups. Working as a team and using communication and listening skills, we all managed the challenge. Great fun.

We ended our week with our reception buddies. We all enjoyed activities in the reception garden and classroom.

Many thanks for your donations and for joining us at St Chads church to celebrate our Harvest. We hope you enjoyed our service as much as we enjoyed presenting it to you.

A brilliant week Year 6.
Have a fab weekend.

Your teacher.
Mrs B.
