A warm welcome to Y6. I am thrilled to be a part of your new year and feel blessed to welcome you into my class. I bet you cannot believe this is your final year at Wybunbury Delves, and what a great year I know it will be. It is lovely to see you all and I hope you have had a fabulous summer.

We have been introduced to our theme – Journeys and Discoveries and our Y6 focus on WW2. Our new book, Goodnight Mr Tom, will take us on our first journey and we began by listening to the first chapter of this fantastic adventure and watching a snippet of the film.

We have begun our Big Art Project – War planes from WW2 – and what a fabulous job you are all doing. After bringing in recyclable materials, we used our designs to begin to bring them to life. We problem solved and worked as a team to share our resources. We have also watched film footage of the first day of The Blitz as some of our plane choices were German.

In Maths we have begun by investigating place value. We have counted in millions using different representations and considered where numbers appeared on our number lines. We will continue next week with place value by comparing and rounding large numbers. We ended our week on TT Rock Stars, New homework has been set. Maths.co.uk is available to complete by next Friday.

In English this week we have been introduced to sentence accuracy by looking at different word classes. We have focused on formal and informal language and expanded noun phrases. We have also used some items: a satchel, bread, St Davids cross, a red bow, apples and jam. We used these items to predict what we thought about a character who used these items and then went on to predict our story. We have also created a word bank from an image from our vehicle text. We will continue to work on this piece next week. We have ended our week focusing on SpaG.

We have new reading books and a new diary to bring home. Please can you encourage your children to continue reading at home as this supports the development of rich vocabulary and they are trying hard to earn reading badges? My class page on our website will have the link to support your child when completing a book review. All their logins are stuck in their diaries, they include TT Rock Stars, Spagtastic and maths.co.uk.

During Music with Miss Holland, we listened to and responded to a song called Do What You Want. We realised that this song is about friendship. This links in well with our Y6 motto which is to be respectful to all.

Daily mile has taken place this week although we have only walked it due to the hot weather.

We have also discussed our Y6 roles and responsibilities and our new badges will presented by Mrs Chesters in worship next week.

I have set maths homework this week to recap our learning. Regular reading and asking questions of the content is extremely helpful and something I would always champion. TT Rock Stars is also useful, and therefore a daily visit to the site would be beneficial too.

PE has taken place this week taught by Mrs Whittingham. I know their focus is football.

We have met our Reception buddies today and what a treat it was. We have been very excited to share some time with them and this will be our aim each week.

I would just like to end my first website post to you by saying how proud I am of you all and how well you have settled into Y6. You should be proud of yourselves. You have been a fabulous team and one that I am blessed to be a part of. Have a great weekend.

Your teacher,
Mrs B
