A warm welcome to Year 6. I am thrilled to be a part of your new year and feel blessed to welcome you into my class. I bet you cannot believe this is your final year at Wybunbury Delves, and what a great year I know it will be. It is lovely to see you all and I hope you have had a fabulous summer.

We have been introduced to our theme – Journeys and Discoveries and our Year 6 focus on WW2. Our new book, Goodnight Mr. Tom, will take us on our first journey and we began by listening to the first chapter of this fantastic adventure and watching a snippet of the film.

We have discussed our learning behaviours and what we think makes a great Year 6 learner. We have come up with some brilliant Year 6 expectations and Isaac has very kindly produced a poster for us to display in class. Thank you Isaac.

Maths we have been introduced to Fisrt4Maths our new programme of study. We have begun by investigating place value. We have counted in millions using different representations and considered where numbers appeared on our Place Value and Gattegno Charts. We have multiplied and divided by powers of ten and we will continue next week by comparing and rounding large numbers. We all have our TT Rock Stars heatmaps stuck into our diaries as a reminder to practice our timetables and we ended our week playing our first game.

In English this week we have been introduced to sentence accuracy by looking at different word classes. We have focused on synonyms and antonyms and formal and informal language. We have also used some items: a satchel, bread, St Davids Star, a red bow, apples and jam to predict what we thought our story could be about and who the main characters could be. We have also created a word bank from an image from our vehicle text and written a short poem. We will continue to work on this piece next week.

We have new reading books and a new diary. Please can you encourage your children to continue reading at home as this supports the development of rich vocabulary and they are trying hard to earn reading badges? My class page on our website will have the link to support your child when completing a book review. All their logins are stuck into their diaries; they include TT Rock Stars and maths.co.uk.

We have enjoyed different afternoon lessons and these have included History, DT, RE, French and Wellbeing.

We have discussed our Year 6 roles and responsibilities and our new badges have been presented to us by Mrs Chesters. We will run our first Year 6 worship on Monday and introduce ourselves to the rest of school.

I have not set new maths homework this week as it has been a short one. However, regular reading and asking questions of the content is extremely helpful and something I would always champion. TT Rock Stars is also useful, and therefore a daily visit to the site would be beneficial too.

We will meet our reception buddies next week which we are very much looking forward to. We hope they have enjoyed their first few days at "big school."

I would just like to end my first website post by saying how proud I am of you all and how well you have settled into Year 6. You should be proud of yourselves. You have been a fabulous team and one that I am blessed to be a part of. Have a great weekend.

Your teacher,
Mrs B
