Welcome back to your final term in Year 6 – your summer term has begun. You have settled back into a busy week and you have all worked so hard. I am proud of you.
Maths this week has been dedicated to statistics. We have worked with line graphs, bar graphs and pie charts to answer different questions. We have used them to interpret information and make predictions. We completed this unit by learning about mean and used this to find the average of a set of numbers. Today we tackled the 2022 reasoning paper, and we will look at the rest of these papers next week.
We are well underway will our endurance narrative writing using a lovely, illustrated book called "Shackleton's Journey." We have used a set of hooks to predict the story and then thought about the feelings of the crew. We will continue with this next week. We have also used some of our English lessons this week to begin to recap different areas of punctuation and grammar. We have also used some of this time to review the spelling patterns we have already learnt.
Our Book Club sessions this week have been dedicated to a SATs paper. We have used the 2022 paper to work through as a team. Answering questions independently and then looking at the marking scheme to check our choices. This method is very useful and gives the children a chance to see all the different answers that are an option.
We have completed another spelling unit this week using able and ible suffixes. We know that hearing a root word helps us to decide on which suffix to use. We have two units left to learn before our big week.
We have enjoyed two PE lessons this week. Coach Beth has worked with us on Athletics and Mrs Whittingham introduced us to badminton. We have definitely felt our achey muscles this week.
Our afternoon learning has focused on both SATs revision and other areas of learning including RE, DT, Science, Music, PSHE and Wellbeing. We have also enjoyed time with our buddies and time on the Daily Mile track.
In RE we have continued with our Spring Unit by answering different questions about who Jesus was. We have listened to two songs and analysed their lyrics. We have used these lyrics to consider our big question and discussed our views as a team.
In Science this week we continued our unit on the circulatory system. We focused on our heart this and its function. We know many facts about our heart. The one that amazed us the most is that our heart beats over 100,000 times every day.
In DT our waistcoats are coming along nicely. We have now sewn them together and will consider what applique designs we want to add,
In Music, we discussed ideas to answer the question – What is music? We decided on so many different ideas. We created mind-maps in partners. We realised it also made us reflect on our music learning at Wybunbury too.
My SATs booster sessions this week have been well attended. Please feel free to make use of them if you can.
I have set an arithmetic paper to complete on Maths.co.uk. We are working hard on our skills in school and therefore I would like my children to have a go at one at home.
We have discussed Primary College this week and what happens during our visit. We have also chosen one activity we would like to attend knowing that two others will be a surprise.
A fabulous first week back Year 6. You are determined and show dedication in all my tasks and work extremely hard. I am so proud of you all.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Your teacher.
