Can you believe it? Another term has come and gone. It has been amazing to think about the amount of curriculum we have covered, including all the extra-curricular events too. You have built up your resilience over the weeks and you are certainly working at a steady pace. Well done Year 6. I am enormously proud of you all.
In Maths this week we have completed our algebra unit and begun our unit on decimals. We have rounded to the nearest 1 and 2 decimal places, found the value of different digits and thought about decimals on a number line. I have not set new homework. Could I ask that you catch up on any outstanding tasks to consolidate your learning.
In English this week we have analysed our example text and thought about different writing devices. We have considered the formality and tone and how the writer has created this and we have put this into our own writing.
In Book Club this week enjoyed quiet reading sessions and we all had the opportunity to change our books ready for our half term break. Although I haven't set any new homework for this half term, it would be great to continue with reading.
In our spelling lessons this week we continued to learn the sh sound. This time we used si and ssi to work with prefixes, root words and suffixes.
We have considered the term adaptation in Science this week by looking at different photos of marine life. We have thought about movement, regulating temperature, camouflage and feeding to find marine life that are well-suited to their environment. We ended our lesson by considering a camel and how it has adapted to live in hot climates.
We have completed our screen printing in art this week and have created some impressive pieces with strong messages. Screen printing is a tricky process and your results are brilliant.
We enjoyed PE with Kick and Coach Gabriel.
In our Courageous Advocacy lesson we chose our inspirational leaders and used facts to rate skills and create a set of top trump cards. We will now create a poster and present it to our class before rating ourselves.
PC Nick came to visit to talk about online safety. He told us that over 4 billion people use the internet. He reminded us about staying safe by not sharing our personal information, having strong passwords and age limits of games and how to be safe if we are playing them. We talked about showing respect both online and offline.
We ended our final Forest Schools session in style this week as we enjoyed some free choice activities based on our learning. We had another chance to build and feed our own fires and of course toast marshmallows. Thank you Mr Hadfield for all our sessions.
I haven't set any homework to complete over the half term as I think a well-deserved break has been earned by all. Enjoy the lie ins, and perhaps some time outside, but more importantly enjoy spending time with your family.
Thank you for all your support and I wish you a very happy half term break.
Your teacher,
Mrs. B.
