Our exploration narrative is now complete. We have been very impressed with the way we've used our Year 5 writer's knowledge features, made changes to our handwriting, and approached editing time with confidence. Well done everyone! We have now moved on to our second outcome. This, we have learnt, involves writing a mission report. We have looked at an example text and started to explore the vocabulary used.

Rounding numbers has been a key focus in maths this week. We began by using number lines to plot numbers and round to the nearest 10, 100, and 1,000. We then sharpened our skills by using the decider/determiner number to decide whether to round up or down.

In reading, we've been practising our summarising skills. We focused on identifying key facts about schools and education in Victorian times. We have also learnt about the increase in leisure activities during the Victorians.

Our Forest School session this week involved some fantastic Science learning. We have learnt about the parts of a plant. We enjoyed dissecting lilies to find all of the parts that we were learning about. We learnt that there are male and female parts to a plant. We enjoyed recording this learning as a scientific drawing in our books.

As geographers, we explored supply chains. We discovered how coffee is produced, transported, and sold to customers and consumers.

In Computing, we investigated digital systems. We looked at how sensors at a pelican crossing help both pedestrians and road users, using images to compare their impact. We then moved on to designing an ordering system, thinking about how an order point, warehouse, and collection point work together.

In our RE lesson this week, we learnt about other people who had contributed to the translation of the Bible. Through the Bible Society, we were able to watch videos of people from China and Jamaica receiving their translated version of the Bible for the first time. We reflected on how this would have felt and how significant this was to these people.

Art this week was about gathering our thoughts for our poetry zines. We re-read the Grotlyn and, using pictures from the book, we created an idea page in our sketchbook. This featured key colours (through the use of colour mixing) and sketches of key patterns and drawings.

We enjoyed our PE lesson with Coach Beth again this week.

We have started practising for our Harvest service this week. We look forward to sharing this with you on Thursday!

Maths.co.uk homework has been set.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and the next week ahead.
