Our tasks this week have been filled with rainforest activities. In Geography, we had lots of fun creating our rainforest dioramas. You worked hard to make each layer of the rainforest visible and it was lovely to see the classroom bursting with creativity. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who brought something in worked at home to prepare things. It was lovely to see how dedicated you were. The finished products are definitely something to be proud of.
In English, we have been writing our shared write. Your topic is the Amazon rainforest. Before we began writing, we unpicked the types of facts found in each paragraph and then used the iPads to gather our own facts. We have then been been using our wonderful writing to help us complete our Computing project which is an iMovie about the Amazon rainforest. We began the production of this on Friday. So far, we have recorded the introduction, added pictures and edited the slides.
As well as doing Geography and Computing in our afternoons, we have also done R.E, Science, PHSE and Music. In R.E last week, we learnt about confirmation. This week, we recapped our learning and then used it as a stimulus for a piece of drama. For the drama, you worked with a partner to complete a piece of role play. One of you was the friend and one of you was somebody who had just been confirmed. You then role played a conversation between the two where you shared facts about confirmation and discussed the role the Holy Spirit plays in it. In Science, we started a new topic all about 'Living Things'. In our first lesson, we looked at the life cycle of a mammal. We discussed the life cycle of a human and used the iPads to find out about another mammal.
In PHSE with MIss Holland this week, you discussed that images you see on social media and in magazines are not always real. We know some people use filters to create photos that do not reflect how they really look. Filters can be fun – but they are not helpful if we use them in a way that stops us from being proud of who we are. We looked at pictures of Barbie and Ken dolls. Why do they look so perfect? What does perfect actually look like to us? We learnt about a Lamilly doll. This doll was designed to show and represent human body proportions, and to help children develop a positive body image. Check out Mrs Jenkin's P.E post to read about what you have been doing in PE this week.
Finally, in maths this week, we have been looking at angles. We have learnt how to use a protractor, learnt how to calculate angles on a straight line and angles around a point. We have also learnt what parallel lines are and how to identify and draw them.
I hope you are all having a lovely weekend. See you on Monday,
Miss P
