What a wonderful week we have had! This week we have been down to the moss for our last John Muir session, we went to Young Voices to sing in the world's biggest choir and we have also celebrated the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

We started our week off by heading down to the moss.  As we walked around, we thought about how the moss has changed since our first visit back in March.  It was definitely much greener.  We also saw some creeping cranberry and some cotton grass which we didn't see before.  We have loved our John Muir adventures.  It has been so wonderful being able to learn about and help conserve a beautiful natural environment which is right on our door step.  We would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Tibbetts and the Natural England team for giving us the chance to take part in the John Muir award. We are going to be arranging a sharing session next half term to tell you all about what we have done.

In maths this week, we finished our unit on decimals, fractions and percentages.  We have learnt how to order, convert and compare a fraction, decimal and a percentage as part of our lessons.

In English, we came to the end of our unit on 'Wishing Tales'.  This meant it was time for us to plan and write our independent piece.  This was our 'Hot Write' which meant you tried your hardest to demonstrate all the things we have been learning about over the past few weeks.  I have enjoyed reading all your stories so far.  They are very imaginative.  Well done, team!

In our afternoon session, we have also been very busy. On Monday, we were visited by Madame Sophie. she read some of our favourite stories to us. However, there was a twist!  They were all in French.  We enjoyed listening to the Gruffalo and Going On A Bear Hunt. We then had the opportunity to explore some French books for ourselves which was lots of fun.

On Tuesday, it was time for Music with Miss Holland and P.E with Mrs Jenkins.  In Music, you continued preparing for our Young Voices concert.  You practised some more songs and the accompanying dance moves. You also continued learning Dancing in the Street which was our class song for the Queen's Jubilee celebration (we had to learn a song from the 1960s). You watched a clip of Martha and the Vandellas and began deciding on how best to move along to your Jubilee class song.  Your P.E session this week it was a consolidation week. Your lesson involved you leading your own learning while recapping the skills you have learned throughout this half term's topic.  You had a variety of equipment to use. You had tennis and badminton rackets, sponge and traditional tennis balls, large soft balls, hoops, cones and shuttlecocks. You also took several nets out and had them set at different heights for tennis, badminton and volleyball.

On Wednesday, we continued creating our 1960s mood board.  Every class was assigned a decade from the Queen's reign and were given the task of finding out about it.  We were given the decade the 1960s.  We enjoyed finding out about the different toys and fashions of the era.  We couldn't believe that some of the toys we play with today are from the 1960s!  You also tapped into your creative side to create some wonderful pictures too.

On Thursday, it was time for Young Voices.  We had such an amazing time.  We sang our hearts out and danced the night away.  It was amazing to be part of the world's biggest choir!  Wow!  If you want to see some pictures, head over to seesaw as Mrs Chesters has uploaded some pictures and videos for us to enjoy.

Finally, on Friday, it was celebration day.  We dressed in red, white and blue and had fun celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.  We enjoyed joining Preschool for our whole school picnic.  We shared our mood board with the rest of school and enjoyed looking at their too during worship time.  During worship, we all shared our songs too.  There was definitely a party atmosphere as all joined in singing and dancing.

I hope you all have a wonderful half term because you deserve it.

See you on the 6th June,

Miss P
