Happy half term, Year 5! The weeks have flown by. We have worked so hard and learnt so many new things. I am extremely proud of how much you have all achieved, and I hope you are feeling proud too.

Before we say fair well for a well earned week's rest, let's have a look at what we've been doing this week.

Did you know that this week has been health and safety week? For our lesson, we learnt about the difference between minor and server bleeding. We then went on to learn about how to apply bandages. As well as being informative, it was lots of fun. We enjoyed being the patients and the doctors. Have a look at the pictures to check out our handiwork. We also enjoyed a visit from PC Nick who came in to hell us how to make a 999 call.

In Maths, fractions have been our focus again. This time, we have been learning how to multiply fractions, and today, we have been recapping how to find fractions of amounts.

In English, we have been authors! We have been combining all of our hard work from the last few weeks to write our own cliff hanger narratives. It was great to see you using all of the writer's tools we had learnt about. I was on the edge of my seat reading your work. I really wish there was a chapter two coming because I want to know what happens next!

In our spelling lessons, we have been learning about words ending in 'ent'. We learnt that these words are often adjectives and that they can be turned into adverbs by adding the 'ly' suffix to the end of them.

In PE this week, you enjoyed football with Coach James, and on Monday we had our final dodgeball lesson. In this lesson, we learnt different key tactics to use before putting them into practice in some minigames.

In our RE lesson, we used our knowledge to answer questions. These questions made us think about how Jesus' teachings help Christians to live their daily lives. We then had a look at our school values and realised that Jesus' teachings are their foundation.

In Computing, we finished our work on databases by looking at how the information in databases can be used to create graphs. These graphs are a great way to show information.

In your normal PHSE lesson, you were asked to think about whether it is important to have groups like charities. You talked about how these groups were started by one or two people seeing a need and doing something about it. It reminded us of the importance of looking out for other people and doing what they can to help which links to the bible reference: See that justice is done--help those who are oppressed, give orphans their rights, and defend widows. Psalm 1:17

I hope you all have an amazing half term, and I look forward to seeing you all when we come back.

Have a great week,

Miss Pennance
