Happy Easter, Year 5!
We've reached the end of another busy week--and the end of our second term together! This term has flown by, and we've achieved so much.
This week, we walked down to St Chad's Church to share the Easter message with our friends and family. Your singing was beautiful, and you told the story so clearly. Well done, Year 5! This linked perfectly with our RE lessons, where we've been learning why Christians believe Easter is a time of celebration and victory. We explored artwork that shares this idea and began designing our own, which we'll finish after the Easter break.
In PSHE, we completed our final lesson in the Don't Hold On to What's Wrong! unit. We talked about emotions that make us feel 'sad' or 'mad' and thought of ways to let them go. It was great to see how much we've learned about handling emotions and forgiveness! We finished by setting our own HeartSmart goals to help us move forward with a positive mindset. It reminded us of the Bible verse: "Love does not count up wrongs that have been done." (1 Corinthians 13:4-5).
We also enjoyed our last Science lessons of the term. We worked together to recap everything we've learned before putting our knowledge to the test in an end-of-unit check. You did a fantastic job, and I was so proud to see how much you've remembered!
In PE, we wrapped up our Invasion Games unit with football, focusing on attacking and defending before playing a mini match. We also had our final netball lesson, where you put all your learning into practice by playing full matches using all seven positions. Some of you even had a go at refereeing--great job!
In DT, we explored Bolognese! We taste-tested two different sauces, thinking about flavour, texture, and ingredients. Then, we researched recipes before working in groups to create our own Bolognese recipe. We carefully thought about which ingredients would work well together to make our dish delicious. We can't wait to start cooking soon!
In Geography, we learned about grid references and used them to locate places around the UK.
In Computing, we discovered how charts help us understand data. We explored different types of charts and how they can be used to compare information. Then, we used a computer program to turn data into charts, making it easier to spot patterns and answer questions. We also learned how to refine charts by using filters to focus on specific details. It was great to see how computers make comparing data so much quicker and clearer!
To finish off the week, PC Nick visited to teach us about road safety.
I hope you all have a wonderful Easter break! I look forward to seeing you when we return on Tuesday 22nd April.
Happy Easter, Year 5!
