In our English lessons this week, we have continued to unpick the writing skills needed for our own PGL recounts. We have then written a paragraph describing our favourite part of the experience. We have focused on using fronted adverbials, alliteration, similes and y3/4 spellings. We have also planned the first two paragraphs of our own writing.
In Maths this week, we have continued to develop our knowledge of decimal. This week involved learning how to partition decimals. We loved using part whole models to show how we could do this based on place value and felxibily. We have also been comparing decimals and ordering by really understanding the value of each digit. Throughout our week, we have also been practising our times tables and helped Baz to complete an important soundcheck on TT Rockstars!
In our reading time, we have enjoyed sharing our big cat books.
Our spelling focus this week has been on prefixes – il, in, im, un and dis – and the words become antonyms when these are added. Please take a look at SeeSaw if you want to see what we have done!
RE this week was focused on comparing churches throughout different Christian denominations. We have researched and learnt about Catholic, Baptist, Methodist and Anglican churches. We explored the similarities and differences between these churches.
We spent time this week to consolidate our History learning and adding edits to our final assessment piece. We have loved this unit on crime and punishment and had an unbelievable amount of knowledge to share! In addition to this, as part of our History lesson, we enjoyed learning about and celebrating VE Day this week. We learnt about the importance of VE day and why it is celebrated now. We showed a real interested in WW11 and had so much knowledge already. We then created our own bunting to display in our classroom ready for our party on Thursday!
In Science this week, we started a new unit on sound. This week was all about exploring how sound is created. We started with a sound walk around school. We then loved playing instruments to learn how vibrations are created in order to make sound travel. We learnt about soundwaves and the different noises we can make with instruments when we control the vibrations.
We have enjoyed two computing lessons this week, in our first lesson, we were continuing to learn about data loggers. We thought about examples of devices which have inputs and outputs – washing machines were are favourite! We then looked at a data loggers and how they sense information. Using an online data logger, we then gathered our own information inside our classroom. For our second lesson, we have started our programming unit. We compared the learning from turtle academy to now learning about using scratch. We learnt how to use loops of code to create shapes and explored the different features of this new system.
This week we have been working on our batting skills. To warm up and get used to handling the bat (dominant hand low down and the other hand towards the top), we tried balancing the ball or bouncing it on the bats – competing with our partners to see who could make the most bounces. To work on a straight drive shot we used tees for the balls so we could focus on the technique needed for the shot. Those that felt confident could also try the pull shot, played off the back leg. After we had spent time working on our technique, we split off into different teams and played some matches putting together all that we have learned so far in the unit.
Year 4, your singing and enthusiasm were infectious in your music lesson. Your expression while singing and clapping was just brilliant. You sang in two groups. You came together in parts and had a really good go at the rap section. Oh Happy Day made you think of how certain words and phrases needed to be sung. You found this song very uplifting and worked hard as a class.
Maths.co.uk homework has been set this week and please remember to continue to play on TT Rockstars.
Have a wonderful weekend!
