Clues about our new text have given us lots of opportunities to talk about woodland habitats, animals and what an outsider is. We made predictions thinking about some of the key images in our new story Leaf. Following on from our exciting first lesson, we have explored the vocabularly used in our vehicle text and read and explored an example text. This shows us what we are working towards creating for ourselves. One of our spag focuses has been on using and understanding prepositions so we have explored these in the text. We then wrote our own preposition poetry. We then went on to unpicking the impact of the text and the way it has been written. In our lesson today, we have gathered our ideas for a setting description. We explored lots of the beautiful illustrations from the book for ideas.

Our estimation skills are improving all the time. We explored rounding to help compare our estimated calculations to the exact calculations. We have then continued by learning about methods to checking strategies for addition and subtraction problems. We were presented with questions and calculations and we were asked to check any errors. This helped us to consolidate our learning so far. We have then moved on to learn about problem solving for addition and subtraction. We have learnt about looking for clues in the text to understand what the problem is asking. We have used comparison bar models to find missing amounts and we have been able to answer problems involving single and comparison bar models.

As readers, we have been reading aloud and practicing our fluency skills.

Is it real? This was a key question in our computing learning. We talked confidently about images that have been edited, and the reasons why they might be on the internet.

In our Geography work, we used our Year 3 learning to recap what climate and weather are, and what great answers you gave! We became familiar with climate graphs and we worked hard to interpret information linked to rainfall and temperature from different locations in North and South America.

We practiced our YoungVoices songs throughout our week.

For Heartsmart this week, we thought about the qualities we wanted to grow in our classroom and particularly as part of our Year 4 PE lesson. A person harvests only what he plants. Galatians 6:7

We also focused on a recipe for happiness. We listened to the life of Boris the robot in our story and came up with a recipe and ingredient list for a life of happiness. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is notproud. It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easilyangered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil butrejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.1 Corinthians 13:4-8

In our RE lesson this week, we continued to think about why Christians believe Jesus is the light of the world. We gave examples of this in our books. We then read the bible verse John 1:1-14. We reflected on what this meant to us individually. We then ended our lesson by thinking about different religions who celebrate light as part of their faith.

In our first PE lesson this week, we completed a fitness challenge this week. They have been challenged to complete as many reps of different exercises as they can in 60 seconds whilst recording their own results so they can see how their fitness improves over the year. This will be repeated in spring term and finally in the summer term and they can compare their results. They were responsible for counting and recording their own reps so it is a personal challenge and each child is on their own journey to improve their fitness.

In our second PE lesson this week, we enjoyed taking part in an orienteering challenge. We focused on the skills we would need for this – teamwork, communication, focus and listening. Our first challenge was French. We had to find different points across school and find an image of an animal. We then had to recall the word for this animal in French. We did fantastically. Our last task was linked to our History and we hope to continue this in another session. We focused on the way we travelled around school and had to chose a different form of travel for each journey we made.

We began our first music lesson of this half term by practising a few of our Young Voices songs. We are extremely excited to be learning these in our music lessons. We know we must learn the songs first, followed by the dance actions. We sang – Birdhouse in your Soul, Brighter Days, Get Loud and Hairspray. The more we practise at home, the more confident we will feel when at the concert next year.

In our Science lesson this week, we learnt about making classification keys. We recapped our learning of how scientists group animals and took part in a game which required us to group plants based on their characteristics. We then used animal figures to create a class classification key with yes and no questions. We are doing fantastic learning in our Science lessons!

During our History lessons this week, we have continued to work on our Black History Art work ready for the display in school.

Maths.co.uk homework has been set for this week.
Have a lovely weekend!
