Our English lessons continue to be based on Leon and the Place between. We are now focussing on writing a persuasive report to help recommend Abul Kazam's magic show. We were able to make connections with our previous persuasive skills within the Lost Happy Endings lessons. We got to know our example text and the new vocabulary by playing a game, writing sentences, and reading the report as a class.

In maths, we completed our geometry unit by looking at shapes which have a line of symmetry. Creating these shapes practically really helped us to practise recognising symmetry in shapes. We have then moved on to our statistics unit. We learnt about understanding graphs. We have learnt how to read from graphs, including bar charts and pictograms as well as add to graphs ourselves.

Our spelling focus this week was on adding the ir- to words beginning with r.

We have also really enjoyed our transition morning this week. It was nice to try out our new classroom!

In our RE lessons this week, we started our new unit of Prayer. We thought about what prayer is and how people pray in different ways. We looked at what the bible told us about prayer by exploring different extracts. We then explored different ways of encouraging prayer in school. We looked at examples of prayer stations and are now planning to create our own.

In our PSHE time we have looked at the bible quote 'And so encourage one another and help one another, just as you are now doing' from 1 Thessalonians 5:11 as a starting point to think about how we can encourage one another. We talked openly about who encourages us and how we can encourage others using inspiration from finding Nemo.

In our history lessons this week, we explored artefacts from the Shang Dynasty. We looked at pictures of different things that were found and made predictions about what they could have been and what they would have been used for. We then learnt about the items and their uses. At the end of the lesson, we focused on what this told us about life in the Shang Dynasty. During our second History lesson, we explored the remains of Fu Hao's tomb. We learnt about what was found in the archeological dig and made a prediction about who the tomb belonged to. We were really interested to find out that it belong to a woman. We learnt that Fu Hao was one of Wu Dings wives, who was a successful military leader, priestess and politician. We thought about what this told us about life in the Shang Dynasty.

As Scientists, we have completed an assessment based on our learning in our Electricity topic. It was great to review our learning and showcase all the new Science vocabulary we have learnt. In our second science lesson this week, we also started our new unit of digestion. We started by thinking about what we already know. We look forward to learning more next week.

In Computing, we have learnt how to how to crop and rotate pictures to be able to edit successfully. We are using the BeFunky app and getting familiar with the tools available on there.

In our DT lessons, we have moved onto looking at our next product -book sleeves. These are fabric covers for our most treasured books. As a class, we reviewed existing book sleeves to then create our own Y4 design criteria. We enjoyed planning our design and how the fastening can be incorporated in lots of fun ways.

Maths.co.uk homework has been set.
