As writers, we have been very excited to rewrite our myth narrative with Arthur as our main character. We have used our writer's knowledge to describe his quest to find a magical item. Each paragraph has been carefully considered and we have looked at examples of what a good one looks like. We have written up to paragraph 4 so far.

In Maths, our focus has been to work on developing our division skills. In one lesson this week, we have divided two digit numbers in two steps using a part whole model to help us. We then moved on to divide three-digit numbers in the same way. We have practiced this method throughout the week as it required a good knowledge of multiples and related facts. At the end of our week, we learnt about correspondence problems.

We have continued to work on our comprehension skills in relation to our Whales book this week in reading. We have then moved on to explore a new text called 'Habitats'. We think this is a more scientific book but have enjoyed learning about sand cats and humpback whales.

Our task in design technology this week was to consider our design criteria for our upcoming pavilion task. We thought carefully about what aesthetics, inspiration and target audience may mean and used this to think about how we might construct our pavilion structure.

In geography, we reviewed our learning to look back at our previous lessons all about the Americas, and we had lots to talk about! From biomes, to climate zones, to different landscapes, continent and countries. We then generated a word bank as a class to help answer our enquiry question, How diverse are the places in the Americas?

In History this week, we have learnt about crime and punishment at the time of the Romans. We learnt about the laws they had and how they were introduced. We also learnt how punishments were different based on your status in society. We considered how crime and punished was similar and different to modern day.

In computing this week, we completed our podcasts. We have learnt how to record audio, trim and join our recordings, add background music as well as sound effects. We also learnt how to save and export our projects. We are looking forward to evaluating them next week.

This week year 4 have worked on evaluating and improving their performance as a team in PE. They played some games of dodgeball with different rules that changed from game to game so they needed to communicate effectively in their teams in order to achieve success. In doing this they required very good peripheral awareness and the ability to adapt very quickly to the constantly changing rules. We continue to ensure we are showing good sportsmanship, including honesty, throughout all of our lessons.

In our brass instrument lesson this week, we spoke about what a conductor is and the importance of their job. We played in small groups to help us follow our conductor. We were then able to play as a whole class.

In Heartsmart this week, we played a version of the game 'What's missing?' Playing this game gave us the opportunity to realise that we have to be observant andaware. 'Too Much Selfie isn't Healthy!' is about being aware of others, noticing when they are in need and then askingthe question, "what can I do to help?" Let us think about each other and help each other to show love and dogood deeds. Hebrews 10:24

In our RE lessons this week, we have covered two lessons. Our first focus was on the qualities of a good king. Using extracts from 2 Samuel chapters 5-6, we began to think about whether or not David was a good King. We listed all of the qualities that we felt a good king would show.We then moved on to focus on Psalms. The Psalms had several different authors, but we focused on those written by David. In addition to being a great warrior and a man after God's own heart, David was a great musician and a prolific song-writer. We looked specifically at Psalm 23 and 91. We highlighted key parts of the Psalm which we thought reflected the qualities of God. We then explored the art work of Hannah Dunnett. We enjoyed seeing how she had interpreted the Psalms into artwork.

Maths.co.uk homework has been set.

Have a lovely weekend.
