During our English lessons this week, we have planned and first the first three paragraphs on our very own monster guide. We have thought carefully about the writers knowledge used throughout.
In maths we have started our new unit of fractions. We have learnt to count beyond 1, partition a mixed number fraction, count them on a numberline and compare and order them.
For Reading this week, we enjoyed exploring more of the Scientific Skills Sorted book learning about keystones species, adaptation and evolution.
In our history lesson this week, we have learnt about Tudor crime and punishment. We looked at sources of images of different ways crimes were punished. We learnt about how ducking stools, stocks, scold's bridle, drunkard's cloak and the rack were used to punish people and what crimes they may have committed.
During PE this week, we had our final netball lesson. We set up a carousel of activities. We played one court as a match using all of the skills we had learnt. On another court, we practised our consecutive passes and defending and then we used one court to learn to shoot into the netball posts. We worked brilliantly hard and enjoyed a wonderful lesson in the sunshine.
In HeartSmart this week, we learnt about understanding people's emotions and noticing how people feel. We looked at celebrities showing different emotions and discussed how these can show many different feelings but it is important just to think about how people feel and how we can be there for them.
With Mrs Whittingham in PE, year 4 have been learning the importance of being aware of our surroundings during different sports. We used rugby to help us learn how to dodge effectively and discussed how we should always travel with our heads up whether we're in possession of the ball or not. We used different drills to practice these skills.
Computing this week was about learning to code a letter of our name. We learnt how to make a line of code and used straight and diagonal lines to create letters.
In science with Miss Holland, we looked at evaporation. We looked at the process of drying clothes. When clothes dry on the washing line, it is evaporation that causes the liquid on the wet clothes to turn into gas, leaving the clothes dry. We set up a mini evaporation investigation. We pored the same amount of water into two separate bowls. We placed one on a windowsill and one in a darker area, but both within our classroom. We have decided to leave the bowls where they are for the weekend and see what happens.
We enjoyed sharing our books with parents this week.
During our Art lesson this week, we learnt that we would be making our own self portrait sculptures. We spent time to look at ones made by others and designed our own. We considered our pose, outfit and way we wanted to express ourselves.
In brass, we enjoyed continuing to play more notes on our musical instruments and develop these in to songs. We are looking forward to be able to share these with you.
Maths.co.uk homework has been set for this week. Please continue to play on our TT Rockstars battke too!
Have a lovely week.
