Our geometry lessons have moved onto looking at quadrilaterals this week. We have learnt all about trapeziums, parallelograms, rhombuses, and rectangles. We also learnt that a square is the only regular quadrilateral due to the length of the sides being the same, and the interiors angles all being the same. We have then learnt about polygons and how to identify if they are regular and irregular. We have also completed three Maths quizzes this week and everyone worked extremely hard.

As writers, our task is now to plan our portal narrative. We enjoyed role playing some of the key scenes, and used this to recap our knowledge of writing sentences with inverted commas for speech. We have then planned our own portal narrative focusing on our writer's knowledge skills and impressive vocabulary. Today, we have written our first paragraph.

We have come to the end of our geography unit all about rivers and the water cycle. We were very excited to observe a scaled down model of the water cycle, complete with a very warm lamp to represent the sun. We talked about our knowledge of rivers and the water cycle and wrote individual responses to the enquiry question, How does the water go round and round?

In science, homemade switches were added to our component boxes. We looked at the symbol for a closed switch and an open switch and began testing these homemade switches. It was wonderful to hear you use the words insulators and conductors, as you predicted how these switches might work.

As part of our HeartSmart lesson this week, we focused on whether habits help or hinder us to achieve our goals. We thought about goals we want to achieve and how we are going to nurture some of our good habits to ensure we achieve this and adapt some of our other habits. 'So let us run the race that is before us and never give up. We should remove from our lives anything that would get in the way.' Hebrews 12:1

Our RE lesson this week continued to focus on how world faiths worship. We learnt about Hindu faith this week and how they prayer in temples and mandirs. We learnt about the key parts of their religious ceremonies as well as about the places of worship themselves. Again, this allowed us to make many links across the different faiths we have explored.

Our focus when playing our recorders for Music was to play Hot Cross Buns which recapped notes B, A and G. We then moved on to play note E.

In French this week, we learnt how to describe food as petite or grande. We learnt that there are masculine and feminine ways of doing this.

In our second Science lesson this week, we have learnt about ways to add soundproofing materials to the music room. We conducted an experiment to find out which materials absorbed the most sound and was the best sound insulator. We wrote to Mrs Chesters to share our findings.

Our second Heartsmart lesson this week was all about Ernest Shackleton's expedition. We imagined we were setting out on a dangerous expedition like the 'Endurance Expedition' that
Shackleton attempted. We designed a recruitment poster that could be used to find the right people to comealong. We focused on considering the skills and attitudes required to succeed. We have troubles all around us, but we are not defeated. We do not knowwhat to do, but we do not give up.2 Corinthians 4:8

In Computing this week, we have completed our programming unit and designed and created our own game. We used count-controlled and forever loops as well as adding sprites, backgrounds and algorihtmns to make them move and disappear. We really enjoyed the opportunity to bring all of this knowledge together.

We have enjoyed PE with Coach Beth and some time outside with Miss Holland.

Maths.co.uk homework has been set for this week.

Have a lovely weekend,
