In maths, we have completed our first unit with a lesson looking at how hundreds can create four digit numbers. For example calculating what 23 hundreds would be as a four digit number. We have then learnt about numberlines to 10,000. We enjoyed lots of practical maths to learn about the different intervals needed for these numberlines. We have also then learnt about numbers between two multiples. We learnt to find previous and next thousands, hundreds and tens.

We have analysed our example text to look at the language features and how the piece is structured. We identified examples of personification, similes and prepositions, amongst others. We have also focused on recapping the use of speech in our writing. We completed our writers knowledge task where we found examples of many different writing skills in the example text. This will help us to use our skills in our own pieces. Then, we moved on to gather ideas for an action paragraph. We completed a role on the wall task focusing on how the characters were feeling and what was happening around then in a picture from our vehicle text. We then used all of these ideas to write our own action paragraph to build tension for the reader. We focused on our use of fronted adverbials, speech and alternative nouns.

In our spelling time, we have looked at prefixes.

In computing, we built on our knowledge of networks, to act out how a router can send messages between different networks. We saw maps showing the location of different networks and we were surprised to see how these networks are connected across the world.

As geographers, we looked back on our lessons to answer our enquiry question What is it like on the coast? We recapped our Geography language and wrote responses as a summary of our learning.

Within our Heartsmart lesson, we considered who we trust and why. We listened to the story of the Wily Wolf. We listened to the story and thought about how we find someone to trust and the importance of making sure you know someone properly before sharing your information with them. 'Trust in the Lord with all your heart.' Proverbs 3:5.

In our forest school lesson this week, we revisited the 7 living things 'Mrs Gren'. We were amazed by how much we remembered. We then went on to take part in a Viking game. We were given a illness card and needed to decide what we would find outside to make our remedy. We would make fantastic Viking healers! We then went on to conduct a field trip on our school field to explore all of the living things we could find. We started by exploring all of the trees within our school grounds. After exploring the trees, we then learnt about micro and macro habitats. We made our own micro habitat inside a box and then searched for invertebrates to add to this.

In our Art lesson this week, we have learnt about an artist – Shaheem Ahmed. We enjoyed learning about how she has created art work through patterns in her own style. We looked at examples of her work and considered what we liked or disliked about this. We then created a page about her in our art books.

In our forest school session this week, we carried out a field study. The children spent time to carefully explore our school grounds identifying all types of living things. We learnt about the different types of habitats that we have – micro and macro. We also learnt about how we can classify animals as vertebrae and invertebrates. We thoroughly enjoyed conducting this investigation and were surprised with how much we found!

In our RE lessons, we started by finishing our diary entries from the transfiguration story. We have then read three stories from the bible. We were focused on how these stories showed Jesus' power and authority. We acted out the stories and then summarised what we had learnt from them.

We have enjoyed our wellbeing time this week thinking about our favourite colour and why this is. We learnt how we can use the strategy of counting forwards and backwards from any given number to help us to have moments of calm.

We have also enjoyed writing our script for our Year 4 worship for next Friday. We are really looking forward to sharing it with you!

Maths.co.uk homework has been set for this week.

Have a wonderful weekend.
