What wonderful writers we have been in class this week! Our writing time has given us the opportunity to write at length and there have been lots of proud faces when we have celebrated our achievements. We have now completed our defeat the monster stories and begun our new unit to write a recount in the style of a letter. We started our new unit with an exciting hook in class. The Vikings had raided our room and left behind a terrible mess. We made predictions for our new text. We have now identified features of a letter, started learning our new text and learnt more about the use of fronted adverbials.

In Maths, we have been rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1,000 and using this knowledge to answer open ended questions which ask us to apply our prior learning. We also moved on to look at counting in intervals of 25. We looked at the pattern of numbers and checked our skills on a number line. We have also learnt about negative numbers today. Using the concept of a hotel, we learnt about how we can move up and down using negative numbers.

As a class, we took park in our first happy breathing session. Following the session, we described our feelings to be 'relaxed, peaceful, calm and feeling disconnected to my body'. We learnt more about the A in team HAP, our Amygdala. One strategy to help wake up the other two parts of our brain is to practise happy breathing. In our journals this week, we thought about when we could use happy breathing to help us.

In RE, we began by celebrating our reflections from last week. We were able to draw upon our previous learning to look at the key themes in two stories from the book of Daniel. We then saw a quote from the bible and this was our starting point to predict what the new story would be about. We worked together to read the story of the Blazing Furnace and thought carefully about the meaning.

Environment and landscape were our main topics of learning in Geography this week. We compared a political and physical map of North and South America and played a team game to find the key physical features, for example lakes, rivers and mountains. We were able to label these accurately on a map.

In French, we have been learning about our pets. We listened and practised saying lots of pet names and played at interactive game.

Our PE lesson enabled us to practise our throwing skills in small teams. We progressed onto using these in a team game called end ball. It was great to see your enthusiasm and teamwork skills. By the end of the lesson, we celebrated our achievements by sharing who we thought our most valuable player was.

In our reading activities, we have been reading the 100 Viking fact books and learning even more. We have recapped where the Vikings came from and learnt about Vikings' beliefs.

In our computing lesson this week, we completed lesson 5 of code studio. The focus for this was on learning how to add a collect element to an algorithm. The children worked as a driver and navigator for this task. One child moved the algorithm whilst the other told them how to sequence it. We are continuing to develop our teamwork skills.

In our History lesson this week, we focused on Black History month. We have learnt about Marcus Rashford. The children were told about the things he has done for his community over the past few years. We then created our own football kits to promote the work and characteristics of Marcus Rashford. We really enjoyed our lesson today.

This week spag.com homework has been set.

We hope that you have a wonderful weekend.
