In Maths, we worked hard to subtract fractions from the whole. This was made easier when we used fraction bars and circles to cross off parts, as we subtracted. We then progressed onto looking at the whole as a mixed number and this helped us to find our answers in two steps. We have consolidated our knowledge of multi-step problems throughout the week. We have then also moved on to learning to find a fraction of an amount. We learnt the key phrase – divide by the denominator and multiply by the numerator – to help us.
We worked hard to showcase our speech skills when writing a small piece this week. We thought carefully about our choice of speech verbs and this came across really well in our writing. We have then moved on to plan and write the first two lessons of our own twisted narrative. We spent time to consider the original story, who the characters were and used role-play to support our ideas. We then planned a twisted ending. We are really enjoying writing them so far!
In Reading, we have enjoyed reading out big cat books.
In spellings this week, our focus has been on the 'sc' spelling.
As Geographers, we enjoyed looking back at the drawings of rivers that we created last week, to become familiar with new river vocabulary. We can now describe the start of a river as the source and the end of a river as the mouth. We also had a great discussion about what rivers look like on a map.
In our last DT lesson, we reviewed our knowledge and skills to write about what we have learnt. We are looking forward to taking our pavilions home very soon.
In our RE lesson this week, we reflected on whether the actions of Peter were the same as Judas. We compared their betrayals and thought about how everyone involved would be feeling. We looked at more art work depicting the scene of Peter betraying Jesus and thought about what this showed. We then considered forgiveness. The children created a wonderful piece of art work to represent this.
In our trumpet lesson this week, we have enjoyed practicing our learnt songs. We are so skilled at producing all of the notes that we need now.
In PSHE, we have thought about forgiveness and how we can mend broken friendships. We thought about forgiveness being an action rather than a feeling. We talked about how it takes bravery to forgive. We thought about times we have forgiven someone and why this is important. It linked really well to our RE lesson this week! 'Love does not count up the wrongs that have been done.' 1 Corinthians 13: 4-5.
In computing this week, we learnt about using repetitive loops to create a 'wallpaper' design on our coding app. We have really enjoyed learning all of the skills for coding and this lesson allowed us to put everything that we had learnt into practice.
In Hockey this week, we have learnt how to use a push pass. We developed our dribbling skills further and learnt about passing between team mates. We enjoyed a game of 'Rob the Nest' at the end.
We enjoyed another PE lesson with Mrs Whittingham.
To finish our science unit on states of matter, we completed our end of unit assessment. This brought all of our learning together and gave us the opportunity to showcase our learning. We are still observing our water cycle experiments. At the moment, they are all looking a bit different!
Finally, a huge congratulations to year 4 for winning the CDAT TT rockstars battle with over 80,000 correct answers. We are all extremely proud of all of you!
Maths.co.uk homework has been set for this week.
Have a wonderful weekend!
