We started our English lessons this week by learning we would be writing a monster guide. We received letters explaining the records had been destroyed and we needed to help to re-write the guides. We were given an example of the last remaining pages to look at. We explored vocabulary used within our model text.We them moved on to gathering ideas to describe our monster. We were given the choice of 2 from our vehicle text. We used iPads to research and wrote notes to describe the monster's appearance and strength. We then learnt about the difference between formal and informal language. We completed a task which needed us to match the different styles of writing. Using this language, we then wrote our own informed sentences using technical language about our monsters. At the end of the week, we looked for examples of all of our writer's knowledge skills within the text. We now know what we are aiming to include when it comes to writing our own.

We have consolidated our knowledge of the alternative spellings for the ai digraph. We chose focus on the ei, eigh and ey first.

In maths, our focus this week was length and perimeter. We are trying hard to apply our knowledge to identify the missing lengths from rectilinear shapes. We have focus on developing accuracy and worked careful to add up to 8 different one digit numbers. We have then moved to find the perimeter of polygons learning about both regular and irregular shapes and how we can calculate perimeter of these. We completed our end of unit quiz to finish off this unit.

In DT, we moved onto the final stage of our build to construct cladding for our pavilions. We thought about the options of using paper to weave, pierce and fold and this was used to create different walls and roofs. We are looking forward to finishing our pavilions after half term.

As part of Internet Safety Week, PC Nick came to visit us in Year 4 to discuss ways that we can stay safe online.

In our RE lesson this week, we focused on Psalms. The Psalms had several different authors, but we focused on those written by David. In addition to being a great warrior and a man after God's own heart, David was a great musician and a prolific song-writer. We looked specifically at Psalm 23 and 91. We then explored the art work of Hannah Dunnett. We enjoyed seeing how she had interpreted the Psalms into artwork. At the end of the lesson, we considered what God may be compared to in the 21st Century and wrote our own psalms. We have also completed our Questful Map for this unit.

During our computing lesson this week, we have started our unit on programming. Using our turtle academy programme, we have learnt how we can use a code to program the turtle to move. We found using a glossary useful to support our knowledge of code.

We enjoyed taking part in a Science lesson this week which involved conducting an experiment to prove the materials of gases. We used lemonade and coke to prove how gas escapes and impacts the weight of the liquid when the can is opened.

In our brass lesson this week, we continued to learn how to play our brass instruments using a huge variety of notes. We can now play enough notes to play the entire chorus of we will rock you. We also enjoyed ending our lesson with a game of 'don't play this tune back'.

In our Netball lesson this week, we have learnt more about defending and attacking. We have remembered, through a game, to choose passes carefully, use eyes and facial expressions to confuse our opponents, pivot on one foot and carefully follow the ball. Our skills are coming on already! We also enjoyed another PE lesson with Mrs Whittingham this week.

In our History lesson this week, we started to learn about the 'Torturing Tudors'. We began by understanding where this part of History fit into our timeline so far and reflected on what we had learnt about life during the Anglo-Saxon and Roman periods. We will continue to learn about what crime and punishment was like in the Tudor times next lesson.

This week, our Year 4 class worship has been a big focus of our week. We have worked together to write our script for our worship. The children came up with fantastic ideas and chose to base our worship around our love for Music and our RE learning this term. We hope you enjoyed watching it!

No homework has been set for this week, but please check out our wellbeing family activity which has been emailed home. If you child has outstanding homework, please encourage them to catch up over half term. We hope that you also enjoy time together as a family.

Have a wonderful half term.
