In English, we ventured over to the forest school shed to get to know our new story with a range story clues. We decided that the clues lead us towards thinking the characters will go on a journey with only essential items. We loved trying to decipher more about the characters too. We have then moved on to explore the vehicle text and example text. We have learnt that we are learning about refugee narratives. We explored all of the illustrations and explored what both texts were about. We have then gone on to then write contrast poems based on the story. We have also explored the vocabulary used within the text. At the end of the week, we shared the persuasive writes that we wrote with Y2. We enjoyed sharing our and listening to theirs as well.

We practised calculating with money and we worked hard to answer multi step problems. We have then completed our maths learning on money and now moved on to learning about time. The first lesson of this was focused on converting units of time between days, weeks, months and years. In our second lesson, we have learnt about converting between hours, minutes and seconds.

In our spag time this week, we have been recapping the spelling rules for plurals.

In our RE lesson this week, we read Paul's letter to the Romans. In this letter, Paul writes about how the people in the church should behave. We reflected on what we felt this meant to us. We compared these to our school values. We then went on to look at St Chads noticeboard and website. We thought about the values of the church and what they do for their community. We spoke about what we feel is important to us and the qualities and commitments we want to show. We then created our own notice boards celebrating who we are. These looked fantastic. At the end of our lesson, we spoke about the qualities of people who go to church. We drew pictures of what we felt these people may look like. We realised that everyone is welcome in church and showcased this through our drawings.

We started a new computing unit this week. Our new focus is on digital media. We started by learning what digital media is. We learnt about how people can change images by looking at different pictures. We spoke about whether we thought editing images was ethical. We spoke about times when this was and was not. We then looked at ways in which editing a picture improves it – for example – straightening and cropping images. We then used editing apps to learn how to crop and straighten pictures after downloading them from our shared google drive.

In our afternoon on Tuesday, we took part in our sports day field events and practised some of our sports day races. We enjoyed taking part in long jump, javelin, bean bag throw as well as sprint races, obstacle races and hurdles. On Thursday, we then took part in a team game in the hall to enjoy the final part of our PE time.

In Geography, we worked very hard to build on our knowledge about plate tectonics to learn all about earthquakes. We used actions to help understand how the plates can collide. It was lovely to hear your geographical language as you answered three key questions. Well done Y4.

Our well being task enabled us to explore how we feel and what we like to do at home. Our strategy gave us time to think about the obstacles that we have already overcome, and then think about how we can use this to help us in the future

In our Art lesson this week, we added the final details to our fruit tiles from our previous unit of learning. We used colour mixing of acrylic paint to add our details. Please take a look at how our final pieces turned out!

No formal homework has been set for this week. If you would like to do anything at home, there is a DDay task set on SeeSaw and you are welcome to complete bingo board homework and play on TT rockstars.

We hope you have a wonderful half term.
