In our Maths lessons this week, we have been developing our knowledge of subtraction. We have used place value grids and column methods to represent subtractions with exchanges. Using our visual representations, we have been able to show how we exchange from a higher value column when we are unable to subtract from the value column that we are in. We have become really confident with this throughout the week moving from subtracting 4 -digits with no exchange, with one exchange and then more than one. We ended our week by practising our arithmetic skills.

During our English lessons this week, we have continued to enjoy exploring our newspaper model text. The story of the snail and the whale became a starting point in one of our English activities this week. We transformed the key facts into a newspaper report and role played being a news presenter. We have explored the formal language used within a newspaper report and used these sentence openers and key phrases to write our own sentences. These will be really useful for our reports after half term.

For spellings, our focus has been on the prefix 'auto'.

In our Reading lessons this week, we have enjoyed reading our challenge books and big cat books.

In our computing lesson this week, we have learnt about who owns the web. We have explored web content and who had created it. We explored what we can see on the internet, who owns it and who is able access it. We learnt that the content of websites are produced by individuals and organisations.

We have had a fantastic final session for Forest school this week. Mr Hadfield gave us the opportunity to enjoy our favourite activities for this. We started off by building our own dens using tarpaulin, rope and pegs. We then created own den luxuries – adding bug hotels and seating areas! Then we went on to enjoy archery and building fires.

In our French lessons this week, we continued to learn how to say the words for our pets and enjoyed playing a game of bingo.

We enjoyed our final week of athletics in PE this week.

In science this week, we have learnt about the how changes in the environment affect different living things. We thought about how changes affects animals ways of life and how this eventually may make them adapt to different environments. We learnt about both the positive and negative impacts of humans.

In RE, we looked at two stories where Jesus performed miracles. We shared all our prior knowledge about Jesus turning water into wine and when Jesus saved the Roman centurion's servant. We thought carefully about the similarities and then explored how Jesus demonstrated his power and authority.

We raced around South America in our Geography learning. We explored political and physical maps and raced from the southern most tip in Chile by jumping from country to country. We enjoyed building upon our place knowledge.

A big part of our week this week has been our worship. We have spent time to discuss our ideas and write our worship as a class. We hoped you enjoyed watching it today.

We have continued to also learn songs ready for YoungVoices.

For HeartSmart this week, we have focused on how we keep our minds healthy. We thought about the things that negatively and positively affect our mental health. It is important to be able to recognise these so we understand what impacts our mental health and wellbeing. We thought really carefully about this and thought of many great ideas. Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things. Philippians 4:8

We have no formal homework set for this half term. We hope that you enjoy time together. If you do have any outstanding homework, we just ask that this is pleased looked at.

Have a wonderful half term.
