Wow! What a week to end the Spring term on!

In Music this week, we had the fantastic opportunity to perform a concert to our families. We loved sharing what we have learnt across the last 10 weeks of Brass lessons.

As writers this week, we have explored persuasive language by role playing a conscious alley and using word banks to write reasons why the happy endings should be returned. We heard lots of confident reasons why and shone when we used a range of sentence openers. We have then continued to learn about writing a persuasive letter to the witch to convince her to give our happy endings back. We have focused on understanding the language and continuing to write persuasive informed sentences. We have then focused on exploring the writer's knowledge throughout our text. We have then planned and written the first two paragraphs of writing. We have been focusing on using fronted adverbials, repetition, expanded noun phrases and rhetorical questions.

In Maths, our knowledge of decimals is really taking shape. We have learnt what happens when we divide a 1 and 2 digit number by ten and how use our knowledge of tenths and hundredths. We have then learnt to write hundredths as fractions and decimals. We have enjoyed using a wide variety of Maths resources this week to support our learning – counters, ten frames, hundred grids.

In spellings our focus was to learn to spell words ending in zhun spelt -sion.

We have enjoyed sharing our Big Cat books this week and had an exciting delivery of some new challenge books.

Our Geography lesson began with the book 'Once upon a raindrop' by James Carter and ended with an orienteering quest. Amongst all of this, we took part in lots of interesting conversations about the water cycle, learnt the process and gathered new knowledge using water cycle vocabulary.

In Science, we have begun a new topic with the question, what is an electrical circuit? We learnt about appliances and how they are powered, and explored the content of a box full of electrical components. We had lots of moments of trial and error and, as a result our successful attempts, we used the circuits to switch on a light bulb.

In our second Science lesson, we wrote up our water world experiments this week. We studied our cycles at different stages, using pictures to help us. We then labelled and explained each picture using key vocabulary – evaporation, condensation and precipitation.

In PE with Mrs Whittingham, we have put into practice all of the attacking and defending skills we have been working on all term with some games of endball.

In our second PE lesson this week, we completed our Hockey unit. We recapped all of the skills we would need to take part in a game. We enjoyed working as a team and seeing the success in our skills!

In our Art lesson this week, we added our clothes to our existing sculptures. They are really coming together now and we hope to have completed them soon!

In Heartsmart this week, we concluded our learning for this term. We focus on remembering the message – don't hold on to what's wrong. We spoke about forgiveness, letting things go and not getting overwhelmed when angry and sad. 'Love does not count up the wrongs that have been done.' 1 Corithians 13:4-5.

In our RE lesson this week, we started our new unit about churches. We started our lesson by using the iPads to explore different places of worship. We then reflected on the similarities and differences in these buildings. At the end of our lesson, we reflected on what a church is. We discussed how a church is a group and community who pray together rather than a particular building.

We also invited PC Nick into our classroom to share the important messages of staying safe as a pedestrian, as a passenger and as a cyclist on the road.

Thank you to everyone who performed in the Rocksteady concert on Monday, it was a pleasure to be in the audience to witness all your amazing talents.

We just want to wish you all a wonderful Easter holiday. We hope you enjoy some time together as a family and have a restful two weeks! Have a wonderful Easter break.

No homework has been set. Please just catch up on anything outstanding.
