Read on to find out all about what Y3 have been up to!

We spent the week in maths on our second unit of fractions. This time we found it much easier than the last time as we were able to use all of our prior knowledge of numerators, denominators, parts, wholes and unit fractions and apply these to our new learning. I was very impressed with your attitude to maths again this week Y3. Well done.

In English, we continued with the story of Jemmy Button but this time we are focusing on a non fiction style of writing. We recapped the story and found we had been sent a letter by none other than Jemmy Button himself! He told his mum all about the adventures he had had in his new, civilised world. We explored feelings that different family members might be experiencing and read the letter a few times, learning new words and phrases and exploring word choices too. We also finished making our books from our last piece of writing and will be inviting parents in after half term to come and read them with us! Towards the end of the week, we moved to an action song to learn all about word families. We had an example root word and used this to add prefixes and suffixes. Once we had practised this, we edited sentences to add word family words for one of sentence accuracy tasks.

In RE, we continued on with our new unit of Rules of the Land. We asked questions why do we have rules? What rules do we have at school and at home? We then came up with rules we might like, like "you are allowed any pets" and "chocolate for breakfast!" We then had a class think of who sets these rules for us? We came up with parents, teachers, the government, God, to name just a few.

We have covered a number of elements of our PSHE curriculum. We identified what negative thoughts are, and ways that we can spot them. We decided to use the help from Boris who reminded us help spot the negative thought and replace it with truth. We sorted negative thoughts and truthful thoughts. This links to the Bible quote 'And hope does not disappoint us, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.' Romans 5:5

We then built on this learning to remember the importance of friendships that are built from a solid foundation of truth. We referred to the bible story about the wise man and the foolish man, The wise man built his house on rock. Matthew 7:24. We thought about friendships that may be built on materials like jelly, sand or a wobbly pyramid and we gave eachother top tips to help us remember that friendships can change over time.

We also learnt about the effects of smoking and vaping. We learnt about how smoking can affect bodies, why people do not smoke and why people may choose to smoke. We have learnt about the importance of staying healthy and breathing clean air and we ended our lessons by writing a letter to Rishi Sunak with our recommendations of our own laws and rules around smoking and vaping.

We were also so lucky to have the first ever Money Matters lesson at Wybunbury Delves, delivered by Nationwide. We loved the workshop and say thank you to Gemma and Clare who delivered the session. We learnt about the different coins and notes, why it is good to save, different ways of saving and thinking about the differences between wants and needs when it comes to spending and savings. Thank you to Nationwide for delivering this information and engaging session for our Y3s.

In Geography, our lesson concluded our learning on weather, climate and biomes. We worked hard to answer quiz questions with a partner, and then our big question, Why is climate important? It was great to hear your geographical language in this lesson.

We had lots going on in year 3 PE too! We had four different stations where children were practising the beanbag race, the obstacle race, javelin and skipping. Hopefully recapping these races has prepared us for the big day as we corrected any misconceptions the children had about the different races. One of our lessons was rained off this week so we had fun warming up with some just dance and then we had a throwing competition.

And, finally saving the best until last...our fantastic class worship on Wednesday! You were all incredible telling our important message all about friendship and respect and how Christian's believe Jesus is woven into our lives as a friend, just like the friendship bracelets we made and wove together. Thank you for your wonderful comments, they mean a lot to us as a school and it was lovely to hear you enjoyed it as much as we enjoyed sharing it with you.

We hope you had a lovely weekend in the sunshine!
