What a brilliant week it's been in Year 3! You've been busy, focused, and full of curiosity, and we're so proud of everything you've achieved.
In English, you've been working as busy writers, using the story Seen and Not Heard as inspiration to create your own mischievous character descriptions. You thought carefully about all the cheeky things your characters might get up to and began planning your own stories for next week. You explored word families, worked on using speech, and carefully considered the setting for your writing. We can't wait to read your finished stories!
This week, you've also been planning and practising for our class worship next Tuesday. It's all about the nature work you've been doing--making bug hotels, exploring wildlife, and even checking the motion camera footage from our school grounds. You've shown great teamwork and enthusiasm--we're excited to share your hard work with the school community!
In maths, you've been getting to grips with unit and non-unit fractions of a number. Using fraction strips really helped you visualise the parts, and this gave you confidence when calculating non-unit fractions too. You've shown great resilience and reasoning--well done, Year 3!
On Thursday, we celebrated VE Day with a special outdoor picnic and party clothes to mark 80 years since the original celebrations. You took part in a live assembly on the big screen, where you listened to powerful stories from veterans and even heard from a child in Ukraine who shared her experience of living in a warzone. It was a moving and memorable experience. You then designed beautiful VE Day flags, which are now proudly on display in our classroom.
In wellbeing, you reflected on the question "I am..." and created your own unique pages filled with drawings and writing all about who you are. It was lovely to see how confidently and creatively you expressed yourselves.
In RE, we began a new unit on Rules for Living. You thought deeply about what rules are, who makes them, and why they matter. We even imagined what it would be like to create our own rules for a day--and you had some brilliant ideas!
In geography, our new topic will answer the question what is it like on a coast? What wonderful knowledge you shared as you were able to locate the seas and oceans around the U.K., locate coastal towns and cities, and think about the places you have visited in the U.K. and beyond. We are looking forward to learning more about coasts next week.
Within our PSHE learning, we have thought about what fake is a mistake might mean. This is our new Heartsmart learning. As we looked at images that had been altered, we thought carefully about how we might feel if we believe something and then find out later that it is not true. This links to the bible quote; I praise you because you made me in an amazing and wonderful way. Psalm 139:14
In PE, we have been working on our batting skills. To warm up and get used to handling the bat , we tried balancing the ball or bouncing it on the bats – competing with our partners to see who could make the most bounces. To work on a straight drive shot we used tees for the balls so we could focus on the technique needed for the shot. After we had spent time working on our technique, we split off into different teams and played some matches putting together all that we have learned so far in the unit.
Thank you for another fantastic week, full of thoughtful work, creativity, and care. Have a restful weekend--you deserve it!
